Alberta Helene Peroutky, 108, of Niskayuna, New York, passed away peacefully at her home on February 8, 2026.
Born November 6, 1917, in Susquehanna, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late Floyd and Linda Brainard. Alberta earned a degree in mathematics from Bloomsburg University and pursued graduate studies at Bucknell University.
After two years of teaching, she moved to Schenectady to work as an engineering mathematician at General Electric, where she met her husband, Donald. She later served as a substitute teacher.
A longtime member of Faith United Methodist Church, Alberta remained engaged in her community and her interests. In her earlier years, she enjoyed dancing, hiking, and camping, and remained intellectually active throughout her life. She played bridge, learned mahjong in her 90s, loved music and Sudoku, and spent time sewing, knitting, and baking. Above all, she took great pride in her family and treasured time spent together.
Alberta and her beloved husband, Donald, traveled extensively, often exploring the country with their children during their early years as a family. Together, they later visited all 50 states and journeyed abroad.
She is survived by her loving children, James and Betty, and their respective families, as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by Donald; her two infant children; her sister, Margaret; and her brother, Edwin.
Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Thursday, February 19, 2026, followed by a service at 11 a.m., at Faith United Methodist Church, 811 North Brandywine Ave., Schenectady, NY 12308. Interment will follow at Park View Cemetery.
