Alda Green Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Scottsboro Funeral Home on Feb. 9, 2026.
Alda Florence Green, of Scottsboro, Alabama, passed away at the age of 101 on February 7, 2026, after a long and happy life. Mrs. Green grew up in the Larkinsville community and graduated from Jackson County High School in 1942. During the Second World War, she repaired U.S. Army aircraft electrical components at Monroe Airfield in Louisiana. While there, she met her future husband, whose AirForce career led them to live in six different states before returning to Alabama.

Mrs. Green was an avid gardener and also loved reading, working puzzles, and playing card games. She was a devoted member of the Scottsboro Senior Center, where she gave bridge lessons to other ladies for several decades.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lt. Col. John L. Green (Ret.); her daughters, Jane (Stedman) Drake and Rebecca Steeley; her grandson, Matt Stedman; her parents, A. L. Petty, Sr. and Alda Caldwell Petty; her brothers, A. L. "Bub" Petty, Jr., William "Bill" Petty, and Robert "Bob" Petty; and her sisters, Corinne McGee and Carolyn Ovens.

She is survived by her sons, John Green and Thomas Green; and her grandchildren, Jennifer Smith, Lauren Campbell, Elizabeth Jennings (Brad), Logan Green, Alyson Skinner (Blair), and Martha Green (Benjamin). She is also survived by her great-grandchildren, Sierra Smith, Trevor Smith, Aidan Campbell, Shepard Jennings, Tanner Jennings, Thomas Skinner, and Mary Becca Skinner, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Her final moments were spent peacefully in her home in Larkinsville, surrounded by family. Known for her sharp wit, generosity, and love for her family, "Nana" will be dearly missed by all who knew her. Alda's family asks that she be remembered for the joy she brought to others in life, not the sadness of her passing.

Funeral services will be held at Scottsboro Funeral Home on Saturday, February 14th at 11:00 AM, and the family will receive friends there from 10:00AM to 11:00 AM.

Flowers, cards and/or donations to the Jackson County Senior Center are welcome.
