Alejandro "Flaco" de Luna Cruz, a cherished father, grandfather, husband, and friend to many, departed from this world to join our Heavenly Father on July 8, 2025, at the age of 51. Born on August 15, 1973, in La Concepcion Ojocaliente, Zacatecas, Mexico, Alex's life journey led him to Detroit, Michigan, where he eventually laid his roots and shared his love with everyone around him. As the sun sets on his earthly presence, his radiant spirit rises to illuminate the heavens.
Alex lived a wonderfully full life, guided by his Christian faith and the love of his extensive family. His is a love story that spans generations, creating a legacy through his children, Emilio Jesus Cruz and Antonio Jesus Cruz, his loving daughters Emiliana Cruz and Catalina Cruz, and his adoring grandchildren Emilio, Ariana, Martiniano, and Jocelyn. Born to Antonio de la Cruz Brun and Ernestina de Luna Flores, Alex was a beloved brother to Marisela, Ricardo, Juan Antonio, Rosa, Esmeralda, Jorge, and Jose. He was embraced in life, as in death, by a multitude of other relatives and a community of friends who celebrate the life he lived and the heart he so generously shared.
Alex carved his path in life with hands skilled in the art of landscaping. Over the years, he lent his green thumb to several companies, but it was at Barranco Outdoor Services that he cultivated memories and professional bonds he cherished deeply. The love he sowed in his gardens, he also planted firmly within his children, teaching them by example to be strong and diligent workers, standing tall and proud as they flourished in their grandfather's shade.
As a devout Christian, Alex walked in love and laughter. He was known for his friendly demeanor, lighting up the room with his humor while always lending a hand or word of support to those around him. "Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another," (John 13:34), Christ commanded, and Alex embodied this in his daily life. His love for his family and friends defined him, and his actions resonated deeply with the very essence of this Gospel lesson.
Alejandro had a bounding zeal for the outdoors. Whether lying in the grass savoring his peanuts, or feeding the birds and ducks at Belle Isle, he found joy in the simplicity and beauty of creation. His evenings were often spent engaging in sports or cycling with his adored children and grandchildren. If he wasn't by the soccer field, he'd be by the water's edge, contemplatively enjoying the tranquil flow - a testament to his appreciation for God's work.
His inherent connection to nature was not only a pastime but a reflection of his spirit. Proverbs 12:10 tells us, "The righteous care for the needs of their animals," and Alex lived as a righteous man also by caring for the birds and creatures that surrounded him, embodying the gentle stewardship entrusted to man.
The world has lost a beacon of companionship and warmth, a man who brightened every corner of his universe with laughter, devotion, and eternal optimism. As we lay Alejandro "Alex" de Luna Cruz to rest, we hold close the memories that knit us together in a tapestry of shared joy and blessings. His laughter will echo in our hearts, and the garden of his life will continue to grow, nurtured by the love and kindness he infused into our lives.
Alex, you taught us the true meaning of love and hard work, shaping our lives with your unyielding dedication and your compassionate spirit. Your legacy will live on as an eternal reminder that through faith, family, and friendship, life's garden always blooms.
"Farewell, thou good and faithful servant, enter thou into the joy of thy Lord." (Matthew 25:21). In every encounter with nature, in every whisper of the wind, and in every ripple upon the water, we will find your smiling face, guiding us onward. Until we meet again, we carry your love, your testament to life's beauty, in each step we take.
