Aletha Meeks passed away Sunday, August 31, 2025 at Mt. Vernon Nursing and Rehabilitation facility in Mt. Vernon, IN. She was born March 7, 1934 in Mt. Vernon, IN. She was 91 years young when she passed away.
Aletha worked at Bristol Myers-Squibb until her retirement in 1991. While working at Mead Johnson / Bristol Myers-Squibb, she met Bill Meeks, they were married on July 16, 1955. They celebrated 55 years of marriage until his death in 2010.
She was a member of Zion United Church of Christ - Lippe in Mt. Vernon, IN. Aletha was an avid bowler. She bowled in the Mead Johnson / Bristol Myers-Squibb League in Evansville, IN and the Jolly Time League at Posey Lanes in Mt Vernon, IN. Aletha enjoyed sewing, quilting, working in her yard, refinishing furniture and spending time with her family - especially with her sister.
Mrs. Meeks was preceded in death by her husband, Bill; parents, Peter & Olga Dickhaut; a brother, Wilbur Dickhaut; and her beloved golden retriever, Ginger.
Surviving Aletha is her sister, Geneva Upshaw; nieces and nephews, Karen (Warren) Evrard, Doris Strupp, Brenda (Clay) Bourne, Tommy (Karen) Upshaw, Eric (Joanna) Dickhaut, Nancy Roberts, Pam Blessing, Walt Bernhardt, Walter Morris and Sue Shaw; and several great-nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 am, Wednesday, September 3, 2025 at Zion United Church of Christ - Lippe, 9000 Copperline Rd., Mt. Vernon, IN with Rev. Jeff Long officiating and burial to follow in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 9:00 am until 11:00 am service time on Wednesday at the church.
Memorial Contributions may be made to the Zion United Church of Christ – Lippe Memorial Fund.
