Alex Box Obituary
Simeon Alexander "Alex" Box was born in Kingsville, Texas, on April 25, 1945, the son of the late Samuel E. Box, Jr. and Joyce McBride Box. As his mother passed away shortly after birth, Alex was raised by his paternal grandparents, the late Samuel E. Box, Sr. and Mattie Neal Box in Laurel, MS.
Alex graduated from R.H. Watkins High School in Laurel, MS, and received his Bachelor's degree from the University of Mississippi and later earned a Master's degree from Mississippi State University. He spent 36 years in education as a teacher, guidance counselor, and part time softball and baseball coach with the Laurel City Schools in Mississippi and with Richmond County and Columbia County Schools in Georgia.
In 2011 Alex and Pat moved to the North Georgia mountains where he developed a love of Pickleball. He moved to Woodruff, SC in 2024 to be near family. Alex's favorite hobby was spending time with his two sons. Together they shared the love of deer hunting, fishing, camping, and telling a good joke. His grandchildren were the light of his life and to "G-pop" they hung the moon.
Alex was predeceased by his parents, his step sister, Christine Waters and his brother, Samuel Box. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Pat Box; his two sons, Stephen Box (Rebecca) of Charlotte, NC, and Patrick Box (Brooke) of Woodruff, SC; three grandchildren, Charles, Meredith, and Benjamin; his beloved uncle, Dr. Ben Box (Bess) of Meridian, MS; along with a niece, nephew, and many cousins and friends. He was loved by all and will be greatly missed.
No service has been planned at this time. Should friends desire, memorials may be made to Sharon Methodist Church in Greer, SC.
