Walt Moore

Mr. Walter Vernon "Walt" Moore, III, 70, of Oakland, passed away Tuesday, September 30, 2025, at his residence. He was born October 15, 1954, in Grenada to Walter Vernon Moore, Jr. and Mary Belle Forrest Moore.

Walt earned a degree in Agricultural Economics from Mississippi State University and returned home to continue the proud tradition of the Moore Farm in Oakland, which has been in continuous operation since 1853. Walt married the former Jerilou James of Gore Springs, and together they shared over 51 years of devoted marriage.

An avid outdoorsman, Walt especially loved big game hunting and enjoyed traveling across the United States in pursuit of his passion.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 4:00 PM on Saturday, October 4, 2025, at McKibben and Guinn Funeral Service in Grenada. Immediately following the visitation, a graveside service will be held at the Oakland Cemetery.

Walt is survived by his loving wife, Dr. Jerilou James Moore; one sister, Ruth Moore Davis (Neill); one brother, Edward W. Moore (Dawn); and a host of nieces and nephews who will cherish his memory.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Mary Moore Green; and two brothers, Lee F. Moore and Kevin P. Moore.

Pallbearers will be Josh James, Cody James, Tripp James, Stan Green, Hayden Baker, Charlie Forrest and Rich Ross. Honorary pallbearers will be Will Grant and Gene Standridge.

Memorials may be directed to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
