Obituary of Alexander William Sisto
Alexander William Sisto, age 89 of Duluth, MN passed away peacefully on Monday, May 6, 2024.
He was born on August 13, 1934 to parents, Carl and Pearl Sisto. Alex was born and raised in Duluth. He graduated from Denfeld High School in 1953, he received a Bachelor's Degree in Education from the University of Minnesota Duluth in 1957, and a Master's Degree in Education from the University of Superior Wisconsin in 1959.
Alex went on to teach in the Duluth Public Schools for 37 years and was also the head ice hockey coach for the former Morgan Park High School for 17 years.
Alex was an accomplished hockey player in high school and college and led the UMD Bulldog hockey team as a captain his senior year.
He loved spending time with his family at the cabin he built on Park Lake, especially with his beloved Grandchildren. He enjoyed his annual fishing trips with his sons, and the many good friends he played golf with over the years. He was active in his community, volunteering for the Italian American Club and the Smithville Garden Club. Alex was also a 60-year member of the former Lutheran Church of the Holy Trinity.
He is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 67 years, Roberta "Bobbie"; sons Jeff (Lori) Sisto, Tim (Christine) Sisto, and four beautiful grandchildren, Hannah (Nathan) VanderMause, Nolan Sisto, Brady Sisto and Josh Delange, Sister Bonnie Higbee, Brother, Robert Sisto and brother-in-law, Gayle "Nook" Peterson, and several nieces, nephews and many good friends and neighbors.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, May 17, 2024 with a visitation beginning at 2:00 PM followed by the service beginning at 3:00 PM at The Cremation Society of Minnesota Duluth Chapel, 4100 Grand Avenue, Duluth, MN 55807. Please join the family for a reception after the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations are welcomed in Alex's name to the Italian American Club Scholarship Fund. Italian American Club, PO Box 451, Duluth, MN 55801.
A private burial ceremony will take place at a later date.
