Alexander Ramon “Alex” Vazquez, age 28, of Martin Rd., passed away Tuesday, December 5, 2023, at his residence. He was born January 20, 1995, in Gaston County to Sonja Ford McSwain and Ramon Vazquez Jr.
Alex is joined in heaven by his grandmothers, Shelby Jean Ford and Emilia Vazquez; grandfather, Ramon Vazquez Sr.; and brother, Isaiah Vazquez.
Survivors include his parents, Sonja and Mark McSwain; father, Ray Vazquez; fiancé, Becca Knowles; son, King Isaiah Vazquez; siblings, Paris Vazquez, Analyse Vazquez, Matthew Vazquez, Emilia Vazquez, and Hunter McSwain; grandparents, Charles E. Ford and Phyllis Bumgardner; uncles and aunts, Chuck and Christie Ford, Susana Ford, Kevin and Jamie McSwain, and Carlos and Lisette Vazquez; cousins, Madison, Brady, and Mason Ford, Isaiah Tela, Macey and Zeb McSwain, Gauge Tillman, Carlos and Jocelyn Vazquez, and Desiree Varlatt and husband, Tunji; and numerous other relatives and close friends.
Alexander was a gifted intellectual and often engaged in deep conversations with his brothers and best friend, Quinton. In addition to a brilliant mind, he had impressive athletic abilities. Locally, he played Upward Basketball and Cherryville High School (CHS) Football. He was also a member of the 2010 CHS Homecoming court. At Palm Beach Gardens High School in Florida, he was part of the wrestling team - a talent he shared with his father and brothers. Alex always enjoyed working with his hands and, according to family and friends, could “fix anything.” He frequently tinkered with cars, guns, and home appliances. He also loved music and shared this love with his fiance and son.
While loved and adored by his parents, siblings, and friends, Alex’s greatest accomplishment is his family. He was a proud and loving father to his son, King Isaiah Vazquez. The family hopes to keep him present and alive for King as he grows up through pictures and stories. Please feel welcome to share your favorite memories with him and the family! King already has Alex’s dark curly hair, athletic skills, big heart, and stubbornness - Becca’s favorite trait.
A service to celebrate the life of Alex will be held Saturday, December 9th, 2023, at 3:00 PM at Missionary Methodist Church at 318 W Ballard St, Cherryville, NC 28021, with Rev. Bobby Holtsclaw officiating. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 1:30 to 3:00 PM prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at Mary's Grove Community Church Cemetery.
