Alfred "Al" H. Kirsch

Alfred "Al", passed away on Monday, August 18, 2025, at the blessed age of 95. Born on April 29, 1930, Alfred's journey through life was marked by his dedication to his family, his service to his country, and his tireless work ethic.

Alfred, affectionately known as Al, was the loving husband of the late Geraldine Kirsch (nee Radtke), with whom he shared 65 years Together, they built a life full of love and laughter, creating a legacy that will endure through their devoted children, Sherry (the late Ray) Martens, Susie (Paul) Kopecky, and the late Sheila Dykas. His role as a grandfather brought him immense joy, and he leaves behind seven grandchildren: Jason (LeeAnn) Polzin, Jessica Martens, Janis Martens, Crystal (Kurt) Walther, Shawn Kopecky, Heather Unger, and David (Katie) Dykas. His 6 great-grandchildren, Abigail Polzin, Madison Walther, Nathanial Walther, Jeffrey Unger, Leila Rae Dykas and Milo Dykas, will forever cherish the memories of their beloved grandfather. Al's warm spirit and guiding presence will also be missed by numerous other relatives and friends who found comfort and guidance in his company.

Al's commitment to his country was exemplified by his honorable service in the Korean Conflict, where he entered into the US Army in November 1952. His dedication to his duties earned him the rank of Private First Class and the role of Acting Motor Pool Sergeant. His bravery was not only recognized by his comrades but also honored with ribbons and medals, including the Korean Service Ribbon with Bronze Star, United Nations Service Ribbon, National Defense Service Ribbon and Merit Unit Commendation. After serving 18 months in Korea, Al returned home and continued his service in the Army Reserves for eight years. His contributions to the preservation of peace are a testament to his character and his love for his country.

Following his military service, he was a Mechanic before landing the job at WE Energy. He worked first as Meter Service reading meters Milwaukee, transferred to Oak Creek, then Waukesha where he became Inspector. In the evening hours he worked for New Berlin School District. Post-retirement WE Energy called him back on a contract basis for a special project.

Al's ingenuity and craftsmanship were evident in the way he remodeled his 2-bedroom home into a spacious 4-bedroom residence, a feat he was incredibly proud of. His hands-on approach and ability to transform his living space reflected his ability to adapt and improve not only his surroundings but also the lives of those around him.

A private family service will be held to honor this remarkable man, with entombment at Washington County Memorial Park, West Bend.
