Alfred John Lopes

Alfred John Lopes Jr. passed peacefully with his family at his side on Christmas Day in Brockton, MA. Alfred was born in Boston, MA on April 28th, 1955, he was the son of the late Alfred J and Lena S. (Gregorio) Lopes. He was a graduate of Arlington High School, class of 1973 and went on to attend ITT Tech in Tucson, AZ. He served his Country in the US Marines and the US Navy for over 21 years, serving on multiple aircraft carriers. He was most proud of his service on the USS Enterprise's World Tour from 1989 to 1990. Alfred had a long-time career as an Avionics Tech working with the US Government, Collins Aero Space and Pima County College. He retired from Collins Aero Space, where he built a loving community whose love and support was greatly appreciated by his family members. Alfred enjoyed fixing old cars with his brother, driving cross country, and visiting historical sites. He was a lover of American History, Sci-Fi, and an avid gamer. He especially enjoyed spending time with his extended family, who will miss his sense of humor and big hugs.
He is survived by his sisters Laraine Tipton of Knoxville, TN, Linda Whiteway of Somerville, MA and his sister-in-law Louise Lopes of Tucson, AZ. He was the uncle of Maria LaBelle and her husband Daniel of Mattapoisett, MA, Joseph Simard and his wife Amanda of Plymouth, MA, Virginia Dunn of Merryville, TN, Sherri Whiteway of Somerville, MA, Richard Whiteway of Las Vegas, NV, Lena Montgomery and her husband Richard of Munroe, LA and Josephine Lopes of Tucson, AZ. He was the proud and loving great uncle of many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Lewis Lopes of Tucson, AZ. He was the brother-in-law of the late Alan Whiteway and uncle of the late William Whiteway, both of Somerville, MA.
Visiting hours in the Cartmell-Davis Life Celebration Home 150 Court St. (Downtown) Plymouth on Friday December 29th from 11:30 am till 12:30 pm followed by a Graveside service at 1:00 pm at Plymouth County Cemetery So. Meadow Rd. Plymouth. Memorial donations in his name may be made to Fisher House Boston.
