Alfred R. Mays

Alfred Raymond "Bud" Mays, age 94 of Hudson passed away Thursday, August 21, 2025. He was born in Cleveland, Ohio, to the late Athanasius "George" and Anna Marie (nee Dora) Majewski. He is survived by his beloved wife Mary Elaine (nee Long) Mays; three loving children, Adam (Maryann) Mays of Paradise Valley, AZ, Mary Alison (Robert) Morgillo of Northwood, OH and Michael (Kimberly) Mays of Indian Springs Village, AL; five cherished grandchildren, Andrew, Regan, Maryanna and Madeline Mays and Dominic Morgillo and a dear sister Graycia Webb-Thompson of Florida. Bud was an incredible husband, father, and friend to all. He was always the life of the party and first and foremost enjoyed the company of his family and friends. Bud was a Hudsonite. He was a member and contributor of Saint Mary's Church. He built the first family home in Greencrest, renovated the Limbach home off Steetsboro Street, and built the final family home on his favorite lot across the woods from fairway 2 of the Country Club of Hudson of which he was a founding member and conducted the first board minutes. Bud developed several successful real estate projects in Hudson including The Country Club of Hudson, The Fairways, and Chad's Ford. Bud graduated from Kent State, Duke Law School, and served in the Navy Reserves and the Army. Bud was the founding member of several law firms in Beachwood, Ohio, including Kitchen and Mays as well as Mays, Karberg and Wachter. Bud loved the practice of law and enjoyed complicated real estate transactions and was a true believer in making deals happen and not breaking them down. Bud was an active board member and contributor of Hattie Larlham and true believer in its mission to help the severally disabled. Bud loved playing golf at The Hudson Country Club in the summer and skiing at Brandywine Ski Resort in the winter where he was ski patrolman for ten years. Bud was a selfless leader with high integrity and huge presence in the lives of many, especially his family. He will be dearly missed. The family will receive friends 9:30 - 10:30 AM Tuesday, August 26, 2025 at Busch-Romito Funeral Home, 19 East Main Street, Hudson, OH (330) 650-4181. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 AM at St. Mary Catholic Church, 340 North Main Street, Hudson, OH. Interment will be at Markillie/St. Mary Cemetery of Hudson.
