Alfred McBroom Obituary

Published by Legacy on Oct. 1, 2025.
Services for Alfred Lamar McBroom will be held at Faith Baptist Church in Tioga, Louisiana on Monday, August 4, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. with the Reverends Clark Palmer and Dexter Edwards officiating. Friends may visit with the family from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Interment will follow at Chalk Hill Cemetery in Zenoria, Louisiana. Lamar, 89, passed away Thursday, July 31, 2025, at his residence.
Lamar was born on December 4, 1935, to Pat and Minnie Miles McBroom. He was born in Zenoria, Louisiana, and was the baby of his family. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Osero McBroom, Cisero McBroom, Haskel McBroom, and R.P. McBroom; and his sisters, Juanita Griffin, Frances McBride, and Alice Moreau.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 66 years, Johnnie Cathey McBroom; his children, Cyndi Hodges (Darrel) of Monroe, Louisiana, and Ronny McBroom (Rhonda) of Georgetown, Louisiana; grandchildren, Kaitlin Spurgeon (Jonathan), Mikhael Valadas (Kendra), and Izac Lee (Chloe). He also had five great grandchildren that he loved dearly, Catherine and Sophia Spurgeon, and Porter, Kason, and Kash Valadas. He is also survived by one sister, Lou Gwin.
Lamar grew up in Zenoria, Louisiana on the "mighty banks" of Little River. He learned to fish and hunt at an early age. He never lost his love for the outdoors and passed it on to his children and grandchildren. Many days you could find him, Mikhael and Kaitlin, who are left to treasure the memories of their many escapades with him, on Red River catching those catfish! He graduated from Jena High School and went to work for LA Department of Transportation and Development and retired from there with 30 years as an Engineer Bridge Inspector. He was also in the military and served in the Army National Guard for 32 years. Since retirement he became an avid gardener and always shared his fruits and vegetables with family and friends. Lamar was a member of Faith Baptist Church. Those who had the opportunity to know him were blessed by his compassionate heart and his giving spirit. Lamar McBroom was a child of God and a wonderful man.
Pallbearers will be Randy Cathey, Tommy Cathey, Jonathan Spurgeon, Mikhael Valadas, Izac Lee, and Shelton McBride.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Baptist Children's Home or to Faith Baptist Church in Tioga.
