Ret TSgt Alfred Ronald Tragis Sr, also known as Big Al, entered into rest on October 15, 2024 in Westchester Medical Center surrounded by his loving family.
Alfred, known by most of his friends by Al or Big Al, was born to Joseph and Evelyn Tragis on August 7, 1932, in Eynon, Pennsylvania. Alfred dedicated 20 years and retired with an honorable discharge from the United States Air Force at the rank of Tech Sergeant, which included one tour in Korea and two tours in Viet Nam. He was married to Verna R. (Haynes) Tragis, who survives at home.
Al was a retired Fire Police Officer at the Cronomer Valley Fire Department, was an active Associate Member at the Good-Will Fire Department, and a Member of the Bethlehem Rod and Gun Club in Plattekill. He loved to hunt and fish with his sons and grandson, enjoyed camping, bowling, and spending time with his family.
Al's children include Alfred R. Tragis Jr. and his wife Tina, David V Tragis Sr. (predeceased) and his wife Teresa, Evelyn J. Tragis-Wilson and her husband James Wilson Sr. and Steven Tragis; his grandchildren: Nicole Tragis-Noreen and her husband Sven, James Wilson Jr. and his wife Teresa Goddard, Amanda Tragis-Cornell and her husband Scott, Brianna Tragis-Koch and her husband Mathew, Jessica Wilson-Holtz and her husband Michael, David Tragis Jr. and his wife Natalie, Allyson Wilson-Gordon and her husband Graham, Steven Tragis Jr., Gabrielle Tragis, Jasmine Tragis, Kathy Williams and her husband Robert, and Matthew Wilson and his wife Brandy; as well as fourteen great grandchildren, eight girls and six boys; and one great-great granddaughter.
Al was predeceased by his two siblings, Lucile Tragis-Mikucki and Joseph Tragis.
Visitation will be Thursday October 24, 2024 at Brooks Funeral Home, 481 Gidney Ave, Newburgh from 4PM to 7PM, with a Firematic Service at 6PM. A Funeral Service will be held at St. George's Episcopal Church, Newburgh, at 10 AM on Friday October 25, with burial following in Orange County Veterans Cemetery, Goshen, NY.
