Alice Maybell Anderson Pfluger passed away at the age of 83, on Saturday, May 31, after a brief, but courageous battle with brain cancer.
Alice was born on February 2, 1942, to William Brady and Ina Anderson in Round Rock, Texas. She attended schools in Round Rock and was a 1960 graduate of Round Rock High School.
Always a hard worker, Alice worked for the Moehrings at the Round Rock Bakery helping with the famous Round Rock Donuts her junior and senior years of high school. After graduating, she worked at the Texas Highway Department. She met Thomas Wayne Pfluger while hanging out with friends in Taylor, Texas. She liked to say she chased him until he caught her. They were married on November 2, 1963. They moved to Houston where Thomas was working for the Texas Department of Public Safety. It was here that she began her long career in the banking industry. In 1966, Tom and Alice moved back to the Austin area and were blessed with the birth of their daughter, Lisa. Alice worked for 11 years at North Austin State Bank, and for over 25 years at Comerica, formerly First State Bank in Pflugerville. She retired from banking in 2001 to be a full-time Grandma.
Alice was a caring person that treated everyone with respect and consideration whether you were family, friend, customer at the bank, or a visitor to her home. She dedicated countless hours taking care of her mother after her father passed away. She was a compassionate caregiver to Thomas during his ten plus years of illness, driving him to doctor appointments, dialysis, and sitting in the hospital for endless hours. She loved spending time with her friends and enjoyed making her German chocolate cakes for everyone on their birthdays. She had a green thumb and always had a smile on her face while she was riding the mower and tending to her yard. She enjoyed playing Bingo and Bunco, going to the beach in Port Aransas, and visiting with friends at lunch. Alice always had good ideas and helped Lisa build a goat house, plant trees, and take care of the farm in Thorndale.
Most of all, she loved her two grandchildren, Jordyn and Blaine. When Jordyn was born, Alice became "the baby hog", always wanting to hold her, and sharing wasn't a popular idea. When Blaine came along four years later, she brought back the old title and spent as much time as she could with both grandchildren. She was the number one fan of both grandchildren, whether they were playing soccer, volleyball, softball, baseball, or tennis. Driving many hours to practices, matches, and tournaments, she was well known and a favorite on the sidelines or courtside watching them play. Alice was always Jordyn's Grandma or Blaine's Grandma to their friends and teammates.
Alice was welcomed into Heaven by her forever love and husband, Thomas; her parents, Brady and Ina Anderson; and her brother, Thomas Anderson.
She is survived by her daughter, Lisa Pfluger; granddaughter Jordyn (Kanak) Snyder and husband Samuel, and grandson Blaine Kanak, all of Pflugerville. She is also survived by her sister Mary (Anderson) Weiss and husband Joe of Pflugerville; sister-in-law Theresa Anderson of Austin; and many nephews and nieces from both the Anderson and Pfluger families.
We would like to thank our amazing care team for the compassion they showed as they took care of mom. Sheri, Victoria, Terry, Irma, and Brittney, we could not have done it without you.
