Alice May Balko, age 94, of Denville, New Jersey, died on Monday, September 9, 2024 at Morristown Medical Center in Morristown, New Jersey.
Born in Wharton, New Jersey to the late Frank and Dorothy Lynch, she was raised in Rockaway and moved to her current home in Denville with her husband in 1958. Alice attended Berkley Secretarial School and went on to work with Prudential Life Insurance Company prior to retirement.
A devoted member of The First Presbyterian Church of Rockaway, Alice was actively involved in the church community. Her contributions included participating in the church's Pasty Sales, engaging with the Women's Circle, and assisting with the church newsletter.
Her caring nature extended beyond her church activities; she was dedicated to caring for her mother and managing her home with great devotion.
In her earlier years, Alice played a significant role in supporting individuals battling cancer through a compassionate local group that provided essential items and support to those in need.
Alice will be remembered for her kindness, generosity, and unwavering commitment to her family and community. She leaves behind a legacy of compassion and service that touched the lives of many.
She was predeceased by her sister, Joyce Bronson.
She is survived by her husband, Horst Balko; her daughter, Ruth Alison Petersen (George Petersen); and two grandchildren, Noah Petersen and Emma Petersen.
Visitation will be held on Monday, September 16, 2024 from 4:00- 7:00PM at the Whitham-Kanapaux Funeral Home, 20 Keller Ave, Rockaway, NJ 07866. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, September 17, 2024, 10:30 AM at the First Presbyterian Church of Rockaway, 35 Church St. Rockawy NJ. Interment to follow at Rockaway Presbyterian Cemetery.
