Alice Irene Lewis was born on October 4, 1930, and passed away on October 24, 2024, at the age of 94! She was a proud long-time resident of Beaufort, SC, even though she was actually born and raised in NC. She passed away peacefully in Beaufort, SC.
She is preceded in death by her husband Zane Lewis Sr., her father Cola Watson and her mother Nelia Watson as well as her brothers Clevis Watson and Paul Watson and a sister Lois Balance.
She is survived by her son Zane Lewis, Jr., her sisters Ban O'Neal, Wanda Rhodes, and Donna Tant, as well as her brother-in-law Ken Rhodes, her daughter in law Melissa Lewis and 5 nieces and 3 nephews.
Alice lived a very full life, and she absolutely loved living in Beaufort. She bragged about it as often as she could. She loved "HER MARINE CORPS" and Parris Island. She was a very devoted Marine Corps wife and she even worked and retired from Parris Island MCCS helping manage the old hotel for recruits' families, after her husband passed away.
One of her biggest joys in life was her son Zane who she loved very much and sang his praises often. Having been a single mom for a lot of Zane's life, she was a dedicated mother and they always had a very close relationship. He was definitely her rockstar!
She adored all of her family and spoke about them often and to anyone who would listen. She loved to tell stories about growing up in NC with her brothers and sisters.
Alice loved her azaleas in the backyard and working in the garden. She loved her local food; tomatoes (She could hardly wait for Dempsey Farms picking season every year and was still going out there at 89 years old!), seafood of any kind but especially fish and her beloved crab cakes!
One of her favorite things to do was to just walk around Walmart....just to look around
She loved anything lighthouses: photos, paintings, trinkets, and doo dads were in every room of the house.
Alice was a very proud Southern lady and was always ready to talk anyone and everyone's ear off with stories. She will always be missed by her family and friends.
Her service will be at Beaufort National Cemetery, 1601 Boundary St., in Beaufort SC on Tuesday, November 12, 2024 at 11 AM.
