Alice Newman, 81 of Chester, Pennsylvania passed away on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, at the Belvedere Assisted Living in Chester, Pennsylvania.
Born Thursday, December 16, 1943 in Brooklyn, New York, Alice was the daughter of the late Morris and Gladys Shapiro.
Alice was raised in Brooklyn. After high school Alice went on to earn a Bachelors degree in Physical Education, from New York University. She would meet and marry the love of her life Gerald Newman. The couple settled in Old Bridge, NJ 1970 to raise their children. Alice worked through the years for Old Bridge Township as a substitute teacher. While living in Old Bridge, Alice was a member of Temple Beth Ohr. Later in life Alice moved to Chester, PA.
Alice enjoyed spending time bowling and playing tennis. She enjoyed playing BINGO, card games, and Mah Jong, and trips to Atlantic City. More than anything Alice loved being with her family and will be missed by all those that love her.
Alice was predeceased by her husband Gerald Newman, by her parents, Morris and Gladys Shapiro, and by her brother Herbert Shapiro.
Alice is survived by her loving children, Andrea Newman-Medor and her husband Frank, Beth Newman-Tizio and her husband Adam, and Stacy Newman-Schumacher and her husband Brian, and by her cherished grandchildren, Jessica and Matthew Schumacher, Jacob Medor, and Justin Tizio.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM and a Funeral service will begin at 11:00 AM on Monday at Michael Hegarty & John Vincent Scalia Home For Funerals and Cremation Service located at 3377 US Highway 9 Old Bridge, New Jersey 08857. Interment will be in Beth Israel Cemetery, Woodbridge, NJ.
The family will be sitting shiva at the Tizio home on Monday from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM, and on Tuesday from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
