Alice Dale Self Washburn, 82, of Marion, passed away at home with her loving family by her side.
She was born in Mitchell County on April 5, 1942 to the late Plato Self and Lora Sparks Self. She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, John Carl Washburn, Sr. who passed away the day after Alice’s birthday this year. Alice passed away the day after John’s birthday. She was also preceded in death by five brothers, Jimmy Self, Charles Self, Henry Self, Walter Self, and Bobby Self; and one great-grandson, Jensen Seaman.
Alice was a member of Coxes Creek Free Will Baptist Church. She worked at American Thread for over 35 years. She was a devoted wife, mother, mawmaw, and sister who would do anything she could to help others. Alice was a wonderful giver, and it brought her great joy to donate to charities regularly. She was gifted with arts and crafts as well as cooking. Her angel food cakes were always a favorite. Alice’s family will also remember her homemade candy that made Christmas time very special. She had a green thumb and enjoyed flowers and plants of all kinds. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by two children, John Carl Washburn, Jr. (Tina) and Lorraine Biddix (Dudley); six grandchildren, Cindy Hollifield (Myron), Kim Biddix, Joshua Biddix (Lisa), Nikie Biddix (John), Kelsey Washburn (Dustin), and Stephen Hess; fourteen great-grandchildren, Maggie Rometti, Rylee Rometti, Masen Davis, Lila Rometti, Colby Hollifield, Jaxson Hess, Brody Biddix, Caden Hollifield, Remington Wiseman, Serenity Biddix, Asher Seaman, Aiden Seaman, Colt Wiseman, and Salem Seaman; one brother, John Self; and a special friend, Sybil Driggers.
The family will receive friends on Monday, October 14, 2024 from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at Beam Funeral Service.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, October 15, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. at Coxes Creek Free Will Baptist Church with Pastor TJ Smith and Pastor Dean Honeycutt officiating. Burial will follow at Burnette Cemetery in Little Switzerland.
