Bishop Clinton Martin, Jr., 89, of Raleigh, North Carolina, went Home to be with the Lord, on Monday, August 25, 2025, at his daughter’s residence in Marion.
Bishop was born in McDowell County, on October 7, 1935, to the late Bishop Clinton Martin, Sr. and Annie Lee Faucette Martin. He attended Hudgins High School and served his country proudly with the United States Air Force. Bishop was a faithful member of Praise Temple Apostolic Faith Church in Clayton, NC for over 30 years, where he served as a Deacon, a Trustee, Sunday School Teacher, and on the Finance Committee. He also drove the Church van for many years. He will be greatly missed.
In addition to his parents, Bishop was preceded in death by two sisters, Carolyn Jean Martin and Brenda Lorraine Martin; and a brother, Wilbert Martin.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Mary Murrell Martin; his children, Debra Martin Surratt, Lucretia Martin Porter (John), Dawn Martin, Constance Martin Baker (Abdul), Lisa Payne, Yenitta Ockletree, Carlton Hockaday (Angie), and Maurice Mangum; three sisters, Janice Patricia McNeil, Lela Irene Leonard, and Catherine Martin; a brother, Russell Martin, and a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be conducted at 12:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 2, 2025 at Mt. Zion AME Zion Church in Marion. Bishop Vernon L. Spinks and Rev. Mary Scott will officiate. Burial will follow at McDowell Cemetery. Funeral Honors will be rendered by the U.S. Air Force. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m., prior to the service, at the Church.
