Alice L. Whaley, nee Reeves, was born on Saturday, June 16, 1945 in Steelville, MO to Countis Mae Reeves, nee Myers. She passed away at her home on Friday, September 15, 2023 at the age of 78 years, 2 months and 30 days.
A graduate of Steelville High School in the Class of 1961, Alice credited many teachers for her development in education and further achievements. She was a stenographer in the United States Army and served her country honorably during the Vietnam Conflict. She was a graduate of the School of Science of Indiana University – Purdue University of Indianapolis, IN. Her real estate career in Indiana included appraising and renovating houses. She liked to be busy, and she strived to instill a strong work ethic in her grandsons.
Upon retirement, Alice returned to the Steelville area and spent her time reading, mostly and befriending her grandsons. She devoted her time and energy to Landon since his birth and hoped he made memories to treasure. Alice was a member of the local chapter of the American Legion. She had accepted the Lord and attended Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. Alice's final thoughts after writing her own obituary: "Spay and neuter your pets. This obituary information has been self-inflicted."
*She came into this world barefoot and departs it still yet barefoot. The needless worry about footwear should be eliminated by all. No need to look, but there are no shoes on her feet!*
She was preceded in death by her mother, Countis Reeves; father of her children, David Whaley, Sr.; son David Whaley, Jr.; grandson Jesse Whaley; siblings Dorothy (Amos) Abney and Jewell Myers; brother-in-law Earl Garms; niece Betsey Young; nephews Paul Young, Vernon Ray Abney and Justin Gunn.
Alice is survived by her daughter Kerrie Whaley of Steelville, MO; grandchildren Dakota Whaley and Landon Whaley both of Steelville, MO and Amber Whaley of Indianapolis, IN; siblings Georgia Garms and Eula (Lee) Young both of Steelville, MO, Mabel (Joe) Swink of Farmington, MO and Rosemary (Jim) Huck of Rolla, MO; special friends Judy (Bob) Greene of Beech Grove, IN and Julia (Bruce) Edmonds of Indianapolis, IN; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Visitation was from 12:00 PM - 3:00 PM on Monday, September 18, 2023 at Hutson Funeral Home in Steelville, MO. Funeral Service immediately followed at 3:00 PM with Rev. Jerry Beers officiating. Burial was at Keysville Cemetery, Steelville, MO with full military honors.
