Allan James Scherff, 75, of Almena died, July 21, 2024, at his home. He was born May 9, 1949, in Worthington, MN to Alvin and Emma (Dykstra) Scherff. He was married in St. Matthew on September 27, 1975, to Judy Sellent
Allan served in the U.S. Navy for four years. He later joined the U.S Air Force National Guard and retired as an E7. While in the National Guard, Allan also worked as an over the road trucker. After his retirement, Allan worked in telephone communications for the U.S. Army. He was a proud life member of the VFW Post #8512; serving as a Commander and a number of other jobs.
He is survived by his wife, Judy Scherff; sons: Michael (Allie) Scherff, and Aaron Scherff; daughter, Emily (Bill) Ferro; grandchildren: Hannah, Caleb, Mason, Waylan, Daniel, Taylor, and Tyler; great grandchild, Amyra; nieces and nephews; and other family and friends. Allan was preceded in death by his mother, Emma Dykstra; father, Alvin Scherff; stepmother, Iona Scherff; sister, Murial (Tom) Cuffel.
Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Friday, July 26, 2024, at St. Matthew Lutheran Church with Pastor Preston Paul officiating. Burial will be in St. Matthew Cemetery. Pallbearers are Waylan Wilson, Daniel Wilson, Tyler Rice, Caleb Scherff, Mason Scherff, Travis Sellent, and Denny Kuhn. Honorary pallbearers are Hannah Scherff and Michael Stoeberl. Military honors were accorded by Almena VFW Post #8512. Visitation will be from 4-7 PM Thursday, July 25, 2024, at Skinner Funeral Home in Cumberland and one hour before there service.
