The family of Allen Henry Choiniere, age 83, of St. Albans, announces that he passed away peacefully surrounded by family on January 23, 2025, in Colchester. Allen, known also as "P-nut", was born in St. Albans on January 12, 1942 to Wilfred and Emiliene (Trahan) Choiniere. He grew up on a family farm in Highgate and attended schools in Highgate and St. Anne's Academy where he discovered his interest in singing and song-writing.
Allen will be remembered for recording several single records under the name of "Bobby Belmont". His music was often played on the radio here in Vermont. While his love of singing continued throughout his life, Allen ultimately became a funeral director graduating from the McAlister Institute of Funeral Service in New York City. While in New York he worked for Hirsch and Sons Funeral Home in the Bronx. He then met and married Diane Angstadt of Reading, PA in 1971. They moved to Fairfax where they owned and operated the A.W. Rich Funeral Home and began a family. Over the years Allen worked for many other funeral homes including Kersey Funeral Home in Auburndale, FL, Tussey-Mosher Funeral Home in Wellsboro, PA, Hollenbeck Funeral Home in Bradford, PA, Auman Funeral Home in Reading, PA and in Vermont, Perkins-Parker Funeral Home, Spears Funeral Home, and was with Brady & Levesque Funeral Home from 1991-2024. Allen was member of the National Funeral Directors Association for 61 years.
Allen's family will remember his long drives in the Vermont countryside, sitting in the summer sun at the camp, his witty comments, oft-repeated jokes, and charming chuckle. Allen will be remembered for his love of maple creamees, woopie pies and diners. He also enjoyed feeding the ducks with his granddaughter, sitting by the lake, and time with his family. They are thankful for his strength and easy does it way of life. He saw the humor in most things, was generous and giving and always kept trying to do the best he could for himself and his family.
He is survived by his children Robert Allen Choiniere of Santa Ana, CA, and Pamela Anne Easterday of Burlington, VT, his granddaughter Lora Easterday, his siblings, Norman Choiniere, Rachel Boudreau, Marie Trevithick, and Leonie Nadeau, along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and extended family.
Allen was preceded in death by his parents, Emiliene and Wilfred Choiniere, his son Michael David Choiniere, his siblings Mark Choiniere, Florence Dexter, Pauline Comin, his brothers and sisters-in-law Ralph Dexter, Michael Boudreau, Nancy Choiniere, John Trevithick, and two nephews Brian Boudreau and Ryan Nadeau.
A Remembrance Gathering and Mass of Christian Burial will be held January 31, 2025, at 11:00 AM, in St. Louis Roman Catholic Church in Highgate. Interment will follow in St. Louis Cemetery. A Time of Reflection will be held January 30, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM. As an alternative to flowers, memorials may be made in his name to Turning Point.
Arrangements are entrusted to Allen's longtime friend and colleague, Jeffrey Levesque and the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home, where fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared with Allen's family and friends at: www.bradyandlevesque.com.
