Bruce Scofield, 73, of San Mateo, Florida passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, May 4, 2025, at HCA Florida Putnam Hospital from natural causes.
Bruce was born on July 25th, 1951 to Waldo and Doris "Dolly" (Hardy) Scofield in Woburn, Massachusetts. Shortly after, the family relocated to St. Albans, Vermont, where Bruce and his siblings spent their childhood at St. Albans Bay. Growing up, Bruce was an avid outdoorsman, spending his time on Lake Champlain and skiing at Hard'ack Recreation, where he spent time working as a teenager. Bruce graduated High School at Bellows Free Academy, St. Albans, Vermont.
Bruce married Sherry Phaneuf of Chazy, NY in 1977 and together raised three boys, Zachary, Dillon, and Dana. Bruce was an active and loving husband and father who spent much time teaching his children to enjoy the outdoors and was actively engaged in their time with the Boy Scouts and winter outdoor activities. He was the quintessential New Englander of the old school.
Bruce moved to Florida in 2003 where he met his partner, Alyce Wells, who he loved deeply and with whom he spent the remainder of his years enjoying his motorcycle, Florida Gators football games, and a loving family. He was known as a "jack-of-all-trades" spending his career working in the technical and mechanical field, retiring from Hydrolec, Inc. of Jacksonville, Florida where he specialized in hydraulic power unit applications.
He leaves his partner, Alyce Wells, and their extended family in Florida, his children and their spouses and partners: Zachary Scofield (Jessica), Dillon Scofield (Jennifer), and Dana Scofield (Casey), his Brothers, Eugene Scofield (Kathy) and Dennis Scofield (Deborah), his sisters: Kim Scofield and Flo Scofield-Damon (Richard). He also leaves behind his grandchildren: Macayla and Evan (Zachary) and Madison and Sierra (Dana), and his nieces and nephews: Ian, Ashley, Jack, Sam, Emily, Lauren, Danielle, Nathalie, and Corey.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Kill Kare State Park in St. Albans, Vermont on Sunday, August 10th at 2:00pm.
Local arrangements are entrusted to Jeffrey Levesque and the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home, where fond memories and messages of condolence may be shared with his family at: bradyandlevesque.com.
