Allen G. Halbig, 92, of Haubstadt, passed away on Friday, November 22, 2024 at Bethel Manor.
Allen was born on August 28, 1932 in Haubstadt, the only child of the late Delphin and Vernita (Greubel) Halbig. He was a lifelong resident of Haubstadt and a 1950 graduate of Haubstadt High School. He married Lucille Lamey on September 12, 1953 and they were married for 70 years prior to her passing on January 1, 2024.
Allen was a longtime member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Haubstadt and the Knights of Columbus. He retired from Emge Meat Packing after over 30 years of service. After his retirement from Emge, Allen worked at Haub Steak House for many years. Allen served his country in the United States Army from 1953-1955, during the Korean War. He was also a member of American Legion Post 194 and had the privilege of participating in the Honor Flight in 2019.
Allen was a lifelong fan of the New York Yankees. He enjoyed spending time with his buddies at the Carriage Inn, solving the world's problems. He loved attending his grandchildren's and great grandchildren's events.
Surviving Allen are his children, Diane Thrasher, Debbie (Rick LeGrange) Seib, Lynn (Chris) May, Gina (Jim) Frederickson and Greg (Lori) Halbig; ten grandchildren, Shannon (Zach) Osbeck, Jennifer Stevenson, Stacey (Dan) Higginbotham, Dustin (Kaila) May, Wesley (Adrienne) Seib, Michelle (Jason) Moll, Ian Frederickson, Joel (Laura) Frederickson, Benjamin (Katie) Halbig, Andy (Kelsey) Halbig; sisters-in-law, Margaret Emge and Joanne Lamey; brother-in-law, Joe Lamey; twenty three great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Allen was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Lucille Halbig in 2024; by a granddaughter, Christina Thrasher; sons-in-law, Rob Seib and Jesse Parrish; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Jerry (Alma) Lamey, Edwin Lamey, Charles (Ruth) May, Charles Emge, Jerry (Juliann) Riffert.
There will be a Mass of Christian Burial held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, November 26, 2024 at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Rev. Andrew Thomas officiating. Burial will follow in the Sts. Peter and Paul Church Cemetery, where military rites will be conducted.
There will be a rosary recited at 8:30 AM on Tuesday at the church with visitation to follow until the start of Mass at 11:00 AM.
Memorial contributions may be made to Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, 211 N. Vine Street, Haubstadt, IN 47639.
