Stephan Henry Halbig, born August 13, 1945, in Saginaw, Michigan, passed away peacefully on November 4, 2025, in Marshfield, Massachusetts, at the age of 80. He was the beloved son of the late Fred and Teckla Halbig and brother to Paul Halbig and the late John Halbig.

Steve lived a life marked by service, dedication, and quiet strength. After growing up in Saginaw, at age 21, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He served from 1966 to 1970, including two combat tours in Vietnam. He was honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant, carrying with him the profound sense of duty and resilience that would shape the rest of his life.

After his military service, Stephan pursued higher education and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Western Michigan University. His professional career reflected his determination and leadership. Steve worked as an engineer and later as a plant manager for Kellogg Co. In 1990 he moved his family to Richmond, VA for employment with Brown & Williamson Tobacco Company, from where he retired at age 60. He enjoyed retirement at his home in Chesterfield, VA until 2024 when he moved to Massachusetts to be near family.

Steve married Margo Halbig, with whom he shared many years before their later separation. Together they raised two children, who were always a source of pride and joy in his life. Steve is survived by his son, Jeffrey Halbig, and his daughter, Stephanie Hoyt. He was a devoted grandfather to Tyler and Natalie Hoyt, and to Aiden, Isla, and Estelle Halbig-grandchildren who brought him immense happiness.

Known for his appreciation of nature, Steve found peace in the mountains and serenity in the quiet beauty of the outdoors. He enjoyed reading and exercise, comedy, and was someone who never turned down a good Guinness. His gentle humor, steady presence, and love for simple pleasures will be fondly remembered by all who knew him.

Steve's life was one of service and quiet gratitude. His family and friends will carry forward his legacy of strength, kindness, and humility.

He will be deeply missed.
