Alma Helene (Nath) Olson, 100, passed away on Friday June 7, 2024 at the Belmond Rehabilitation Center in Belmond, IA. A celebration of Alma’s life will be held at the Warner Funeral Home in Everly, IA on Saturday, June 15 at 2:00 P.M., with the visitation beginning at 1:00 P.M. Following the graveside service, a time of fellowship and remembrance will follow at the funeral home.
Alma was born to Peter and Ida (Koechert) Nath on July 9, 1923 on a farm between Everly and Moneta, Iowa. Her high school education was completed in Hartley in 1942. Upon her completion of high school, she was employed at the Hartley Telephone Company, Council Oak grocery in Hartley, and the arsenal in the Quad Cities during WWII.
After the war, she returned to Northwest Iowa where she met her future husband Wade Olson, whom she married on January 20, 1947. This union was blessed with four children; Steven, Jeanette, Ronald, and Gary. Cliff and Sue Muilenburg are honorary family members. Wade and Alma moved to a farm North of Everly and actively engaged in agriculture for over 30 years. Upon Wade’s retirement from farming, he and Alma built a home in Everly where they resided.
After Wade’s passing in 1977, Alma moved to Spencer, Iowa where she was employed at K & D Boodery and Ellerbrocks. She was an excellent seamstress, cook, and bookkeeper. She was very active in the family farm operation, even in retirement.
Alma enjoyed traveling to Alaska, Hawaii, Europe, and many areas of the United States. She also enjoyed dancing, music, family gatherings, fireworks, chatting on the phone with friends and family, playing cards, (usually winning), and drop in visitors.
Alma was an active member of the Hope Lutheran Church of Everly until she moved to Spencer and became a member of the Bethany Lutheran Church.
She is survived by Wade’s daughter, Leora (Roger) Lageschulte of Seattle, WA; daughter, Jeanette (Doug) Lietz of Decorah, IA; son, Gary (Deb) Olson of Clarion, IA; 9 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren and one on the way; and many nieces and nephews.
Alma is proceeded in death by her parents, husband Wade; sons Ronald and Steven; grandson David Lageschulte; sisters Anna Ott and Velma Roseberg; and brother Elmer Nath.
She will be lovingly missed by her family and friends.
