It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Alphonso Rillo, a man whose life was a testament to love, service, and unwavering devotion. Al died peacefully on October 7, 2025, at the age of 96.
Al's most defining characteristic was his profound adoration for his beloved wife, Mary, who passed away just three weeks prior. Their extraordinary love story spanned 72 years of marriage, a partnership built on mutual respect, shared laughter, and enduring commitment. Their love was special, like no other-deep, unwavering, and beautifully rare. Mary was the center of Al's world, and their bond was an inspiration to all who knew them. Rarely were they seen apart; they were always together.
Al deeply cherished his family. He took immense pride in his daughter Debbie and son-in-law Victor, and found great joy in his granddaughters, Ashley and Mary Ann. Keeping up with their lives wasn't just a duty, it was his favorite pastime. Whether during phone calls or visits, Al would eagerly ask, "What's going on at work? And where are you traveling to next?" He didn't just listen, he lived vicariously through their stories, celebrating every success, adventure, and new chapter. He was Ashley and Mary Ann's biggest fan.
Al proudly served his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean War, a period that instilled in him a deep sense of patriotism and duty. After his military service, he built a successful career as a skilled electrician and later became an electrical inspector for Middle Department Inspection Agency, ensuring the safety and integrity of countless structures.
A devoted member of his community, Al Rillo held leadership roles in several respected organizations. He was a longtime, active member of the Elks Club, proudly serving as Exalted Ruler, and a dedicated member of the American Legion. As part of the VFW, Al participated in Poppy Day, a tradition he cherished. It was always a joy to see the proud veteran handing out the symbolic poppies with warmth and pride.
Al Rillo was a good man, steadfast, honorable, and deeply respected. He was a dependable rock for his family and a proud citizen who served both his nation and his community with integrity. For all who knew him, Al was a man of honor.
