Alta Jane Thomas Boyter
1939 ~ 2025
Our beloved mother, wife, grandmother, sister, and friend, Alta Jane Thomas Boyter, formerly of Orem, Utah, passed away peacefully on the evening of September 11, 2025, in Lehi, Utah.
Alta was born on February 2, 1939, to Moroni Midgley and Mary Jane Thomas in Moroni, Utah. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, educator, and a faithful disciple of Jesus Christ. Alta's life was a beautiful testament to service, love, and an unwavering commitment to her family and faith.
Growing up in the small town of Wales, Utah, Alta cherished the simple joys of life-raising animals, working hard, and serving her community. She developed a deep love for music as she listened to her mother play the piano and sing. With her intelligence, warmth, and kindness, Alta made lifelong friendships. She attended primary school in Wales before moving to Moroni for high school, where she thrived both academically and socially. Alta sang in the chorus, cheered as part of the cheerleading squad, and was honored as the M-Club Queen and FFA Sweetheart. She also showcased her talents as a baton twirler in the school band.
Alta's academic journey took her from SUU to University of Utah, where she balanced full-time work and studies with grace. She earned a degree in Elementary Education, a profession that not only brought her personal fulfillment but later enriched the lives of many.
On July 1, 1966, Alta married MacNeil Boyter in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. Together, they built a life grounded in love, faith, and mutual support, raising six children: Kimberlee Taylor (William), Michole Church (Corey), Ashley Taylor (Scott), Lorie Barney (Dean), Megan Miller (Charlie), and Mac Neil II (Charami). Alta's legacy continues through her twenty-five grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her cherished younger sister, Betty Jensen (Roger), and preceded in death by her husband, MacNeil; sisters, Lula Irons and Rhea Campbell; and brothers, Richard Thomas and Vaughn Thomas.
Alta took great pride in creating a warm, loving home. She found joy in gardening and growing flowers, and she tirelessly supported her children's many activities. Her love of music was an integral part of her family, and her quiet strength and selflessness made a lasting impact on everyone she encountered.
A woman of profound faith, Alta served in numerous callings within The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, including as a ward Relief Society president, Young Women president, Primary teacher, Missionary Training Center branch leader, and later as a temple worker at the Mount Timpanogos Temple. She offered her service with humility and love, always seeking to lift others.
Known for her gentle smile, kind words, and acts of service, Alta touched countless lives, especially through her tender interactions with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She had a special love for little children, and her legacy of love, faith, and service will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
Though we miss Alta deeply, we find comfort in knowing she has been reunited with her beloved husband, MacNeil, and many dear loved ones in the presence of the Savior she loved so deeply.
