Alton Phinizy "Buster" Meeks, Jr., age 84, of Alma passed away December 31, 2024 at Bacon County Hospital after an extended illness. He was born in Bacon County May 12, 1940 to Alton Phinizy Meeks, Sr. and Catherine Hazel McCoy Meeks.
Mr. Meeks was a member of Alma First Baptist Church and was retired from the Bacon County School System after 30 years.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Cona Britt Meeks and three brother-in-laws, Bill Laite, Wayne Jones, Sr. and Roger Boatright. Survivors include two children, Alton Britt Meeks (Sandy) of Waycross and Sarah Thornton of Alma; three grandchildren, Alton Blake Meeks (Anna), Taylor Renea Thornton and Julia Katherine Griffin (Gunner); one great-grandchild; two sisters, Marilyn Laite and Terry Jones; sister-in-law, Joy Boatright and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 4, 2025 at 2:00 PM at First Baptist Church with Pastor Owen Atha. Interment will be private. The family will be receiving friends at First Baptist Church Saturday from 12:00 PM until service time.
Active pallbearers will be Shane Howell, Ricky Gilliard, Ben Lott, Jack Johnson, Sammy Boatright, Nathan Boatright, J. T. Taylor, Ricky Altman, Jerry Boatright, Joe Boatright, Jack Wildes and Mike Morrison. Honorary pallbearers will be the First Baptist Church Men' s Sunday School Class and Bacon County High School Teachers.
Crosby Funeral Home will be in charge of arrangements.
