Alvin V. Siebert, Jr.

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our loving husband, father and Papa, Alvin Vernon Siebert, Jr. He left us for heaven on June 4, 2025 at 5:30 in the morning.

Al was born in Kansas City, Missouri on July 31, 1948. He grew up in the Kansas City, Kansas area. He lived with his father, Alvin, mother, Mary, and his sister Sherlyn. At 13 years of age, he lost his father. He and his mother and sister moved to Southern California before Al began his Junior year of high school. He attended Lakewood High School and graduated in 1966.

Al spent his first year of college at Pepperdine University and then began attending Biola University in 1967. It was there that he met the love of his life, Johanna Faith Uphouse in November 1969. A year, a month, a week and a day later, they were married. On December 19, 1970, Al and Johanna pledged their lives to each other.

Al graduated with an undergraduate degree of Christian Education in 1970 from Biola, and a Masters' degree from Talbot Seminary in 1975.

However, before he graduated, their first child was born, Sarah, in 1974. Less than 3 years later, Charity was born in 1977. That same year, Al and Hannah and the family moved into their forever home in Signal Hill, California.

Al began his ministry years with Long Beach Youth for Christ while still in college at the age of 19. He became the Executive Director in 1974 at the age of 26. In the earlier years of Youth for Christ, Al's work entailed running Campus Life clubs in the Long Beach area, taking students to camp several times a year, fundraising, and spreading the gospel to as many young people as possible. In the later years that Al was with Youth for Christ, much of his time was taken up by supporting campus Bible clubs, one-on-one or small group mentoring of young pastors or youth workers, small spiritual discipline focused camps, and planning large scale youth ministry events. Most people Al mentored over the years can probably picture him sitting across a table in his Brooklyn Dodgers gear with a new book he was going to give them.

He and Hannah have been members of Bellflower Brethren Church for 47 years. Over the years, Al served in roles as song and worship leader, elder on the board, small group leader and he often preached on Sundays.

In Al's free time, he enjoyed many things. He, first of all, loved spending time with his family and put them as his first priority. He loved to travel to his favorite places including Yosemite, Cambria and Kauai. He and Hannah spent countless mornings walking in the Bolsa Chica Wetlands, his personal favorite local spot to see God's beauty in nature. Al was passionate about reading, nature, games, road trips, root beer, mashed potatoes and always, in the midst of it all, looking for Jesus in everything.

Al's life verse was Philippians 1:21, "For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain." Al wrote about this verse and said, "Lord, to live is…YOU. Dying…is the payoff!" All who know Al also know that he sincerely lived his life in this truth.

Al is survived by his beloved wife, Johanna, his daughters, Sarah and Charity, his sons-in-law, Scott and Thomas, his grandchildren, Aster, Ami, River and Jack. He is also survived by his sister, Sherlyn and brother-in-law, Teo.

Al's Celebration of Life service will be held on July 12, 2025 at 12:00pm at Calvary Baptist Bellflower (14722 Clark Ave, Bellflower, Calif.).
