Amancia C. Sousa

Amancia C. Sousa, 97, passed away peacefully of natural causes on August 27, 2025, in Newington, CT. Born on March 16, 1928, in Santa Maria, Azores, Portugal, to the late Manuel Soares Anselmo and Maria Jose Nunes, Amancia immigrated to the United States with her family in 1975.
She joins in eternal rest her husband, Jose Soares de Sousa, and her son, Joaquim da Conceicao Soares de Sousa, who passed before her.
Amancia's legacy of love continues through her daughters: Maria Virginia Soares de Sousa Braga (João) of Santa Maria, Azores, Portugal; Alice Soares Sousa (Carlos) of Newington, CT; and Maria Fatima Braga (Joe's widow) of Newington, CT. She was a cherished grandmother to Helder, Mario, Crestina, Diane, Marco, and Jeffrey. Her eleven great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren brought her immense joy and pride.
Amancia is also survived by her two sisters, Maria Virginia Nunes Soares of Santa Maria, Azores, Portugal, and Maria Freitas of Newington, CT. She also leaves behind many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins. Besides her husband and son, Amancia was predeceased by her sisters, Laura Natalia Soares Andrade and Helena Soares Medeiros, and by her brother, Antonio Soares Nunes.
After many years of dedicated work, Amancia retired and spent her later years surrounded by family and faith. A devout Catholic, she was a faithful member of Our Lady of Fatima Church in Hartford, CT.
Calling hours will be Tuesday, September 2, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the Sheehan Hilborn Breen Funeral Home, 1084 New Britain Avenue, West Hartford, followed by an 11:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Fatima Church in Hartford. Amancia deixa ainda as suas duas irmãs, Maria Virginia Nunes Soares, de Santa Maria, Açores, Portugal, e Maria Freitas, de Newington, Connecticut. Foi precedida pelas suas irmãs, Laura Natalia Soares Andrade e Helena Soares Medeiros, e pelo seu irmão, Antonio Soares Nunes. Deixa também muitos sobrinhos, sobrinhas e primos queridos.
Após muitos anos de trabalho dedicado, Amancia reformou-se e passou os seus últimos anos rodeada pela família e pela fé. Católica devota, era membro fiel da Igreja de Nossa Senhora de Fátima, em Hartford, Connecticut.
O velório será realizado na Agência Funerária Sheehan Hilborn Breen, situada na New Britain Avenue, 1084, West Hartford, na terça-feira, 2 de setembro de 2025, das 9h00 às 10h30, seguindo-se uma missa de corpo presente na Igreja de Nossa Senhora de Fátima, em Hartford, às 11h00.
