Amanda (Rudder) Taylor Shockey

101, of Camden, passed peacefully into the arms of her Savior, Tuesday, August 19, 2025.

She was born January 11, 1924, in London, Kentucky, to the late V. Homer and Goldie M. (George) Rudder.

In addition to her parents, Amanda was preceded in death by her husbands, Charles Taylor and Elwood Shockey, and siblings, Ila Agnes Holmes and William Albert Rudder.

She is survived by her nieces and nephews, Joyce (Jim) Armstrong, Dennis (Micki) Holmes, Gary (Vickie) Holmes, Sharon (Craig) Harkrider, Karen (Jon) Montani, and Anita (Michael) Ball; numerous grandnieces and grandnephews and great grandnieces and grandnephews; and one great-great grandnephew.

Amanda lived her life with a deep love for learning, teaching, and connecting with others. She shared her gift of education as a devoted teacher at both Preble Shawnee and Princeton public schools, shaping young minds with patience, creativity, and care. Her students and colleagues alike will remember her as someone who never stopped encouraging curiosity and growth.

Living to be 101 means you not only get a second act but you get a third and fourth act. In retirement, Amanda became a “true snowbird” living in Florida, Georgia, and most recently in Greenville, South Carolina. Wherever she went she became a part of the community, forming lasting friendships that enriched her life and the lives of those around her.

Beyond the classroom, Amanda poured her heart into the pursuits that brought her joy. She was a passionate genealogist, carefully tracing family roots and preserving stories that might otherwise be forgotten. She loved gardening - growing beautiful flowers and vegetables - keeping her large yard well maintained even into her nineties. She won many awards with her orchids.

Amanda’s faith was a cornerstone of her life. As a member of the First Southern Baptist Church in Camden, (as well as being active in churches in FL, GA, and SC) she found purpose in worship and community, giving her time and talents to serve wherever she could.

A Celebration of Life service will be held Wednesday, August 27, from 6:00PM to 7:30PM at First Southern Baptist Church, 35 N. Liberty St., Camden 45311. A graveside service will begin at 11AM on Friday, August 29, at Fairmount Cemetery, Camden.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Woodland Country Manor for their loving and compassionate care of our “Aunt Amanda”.
