Amy Elizabeth McDonald, aged 54, of Hambden Township, passed away peacefully on February 13, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on June 13, 1969, in Painesville, Ohio, to William and Bonita Lorraine Vuyk (nee: McLaughlin).
Amy a lifelong area resident, was a proud graduate of Chardon High School in 1987. She furthered her education at Bowling Green State University, earning her degree in 1991. It was on St. Patrick's Day that she met the love of her life, Alex. The following year on St. Patrick's Day they were engaged. Alex was her unwavering "Knight in Shining Armor" throughout their 24 years of marriage.
While she found fulfillment in her career in HR Management, Amy's true passion was being a devoted mother. Alongside Alex, she raised two remarkable children, Madeline and Alexander IV, who brought immense joy to her life. And just like Mom, they attended Hambden Elementary, Chardon Middle School and Chardon High School. Amy was their steadfast champion, supporting Madeline in her theatrical pursuits and congratulating her on achieving the Girl Scout Gold Award, while also cheering on Alexander IV at his football games and wrestling matches. Her children were her pride and priority, and her love for them knew no bounds.
In addition to her dedication to her family, Amy found solace and joy in her hobbies. She had a green thumb and found immense pleasure in gardening, particularly cultivating flowers. An avid reader, she found comfort and inspiration in the pages of books. However, her greatest joy always came from spending time with her beloved family.
Amy is survived by her devoted husband, Alexander C. McDonald III, of Hambden Township; her cherished children, Madeline McDonald and Alexander C. IV, also of Hambden Township; her loving brother, Eric (Mary) Vuyk of Cincinnati; and her best friend, Jeri Lynn Pilarczyk of Chardon. She was preceded in death by her beloved parents.
Amy will be remembered for her unwavering love for her family, her kind and nurturing spirit, and the light she brought to all who knew her. She will be deeply missed and forever cherished in our hearts.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, February 17, 2024 at the Burr Funeral Home, 116 South Street, Chardon from 3:00 – 6:00 PM with a Memorial Service at 6:00 PM. Burial will be private at a later date.
The family kindly requests contributions in Amy's memory to be made to the Huntington's Disease Society of America at HDSA.org.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Burr Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Chardon, Ohio. Condolences and memories may be shared online at www.burrservice.com
