Amelia Christy Harlukowicz-Proctor, known lovingly by all as Amy, passed away on December 25, 2025, in Lansing, Michigan. Born on March 10th, 1970, in
Dearborn, Michigan, to Elaine Wischmeyer and the late John Harlukowicz.
Amy's brilliance shone early on, as she charted her academic path with distinction through the halls of Johannesburg-Lewiston K-12, earning her diploma with the class of '88. Her passion for science beckoned her to Siena Heights University, where she obtained her Bachelor's degree in Chemistry and later proceeded to Michigan State University, enriching her expertise with a Master's degree in Criminal Justice with a concentration in Forensic Science.
Professionally, Amy dedicated herself to the field of forensic science, starting as a DNA analyst at the Hamilton County Coroner's Office in Cincinnati, Ohio. She was recognized for her integrity and meticulousness. In 2001, Amy embraced her role at the Michigan State Police Lansing Lab, leading as the Supervisor of the Biology unit, a position she held with commendable diligence. Her work contributed immeasurably to justice and public safety.
Beyond her professional pursuits, Amy found joy and fulfillment in life's simpler moments. She avidly supported the Detroit Tigers, the Detroit Lions, and the Michigan State Spartans, sharing the excitement with her cherished son, Jacob, whether it was at a stadium brimming with fans or from the comfort of her living room. The bond between them was further strengthened by their mutual love for baseball, with Amy never missing a chance to cheer on Jacob from his earliest games.
Her talents extended to crafting, a hobby through which she expressed her creative spirit and shared handmade treasures with those around her. Amy was an exceptional party planner, infusing life into every event with thoughtful details that brought smiles and warmth to the hearts of her family and friends. Known among her loved ones for her fierce love and endless generosity, Amy found purpose in volunteering and assisting those in need, living by example through her acts of kindness.
Amy's devotion to family was unparalleled. She leaves behind a legacy of love in her adored son, Jacob Proctor; mother, Elaine Wischmeyer; her sisters, Carrie (Matt) Wenta and Ann (James) Paille; as well as her treasured nieces, Chelsey (Justin) Scott, Madison Wenta, and Faith Morgan; and nephews, Ethan Wenta, Benjamin Momrik, and Thomas Momrik. Her great-nieces, Olivia Scott and Autumn Scott, and great-nephews, David Scott and Thorin Scott, will miss her guiding presence. As she enters eternity, Amy also reunites with her father, John Harlukowicz.
Amy will be remembered for her unwavering faith, her compassionate heart, and the grace with which she walked through life. The impact of her presence will forever resonate in the lives of those who were fortunate to know her. As we mourn the loss of a luminous soul, we take solace in the indelible memories that Amy has etched in our hearts. Her spirit continues to inspire us to cherish every moment, love deeply, and give selflessly. Farewell to a remarkable woman, whose life was a beacon of what it means to live authentically and love unconditionally.
