Middlesex - Nancy Preis, 92, died on Wednesday, November 20, 2024 in the arms of her beloved husband Bill, at their home on East Hill Road in Middlesex, VT.
She was born on November 17, 1932 in Philadelphia, PA the daughter of Julia Loretta "Nana" Stahl Garrett a loving, devoted and adventurous mother and Charles "Chick" Garrett a renowned Oxford Press newspaper man as well as several prestigious papers in the New Jersey, Philly and D.C. areas.
Nancy was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, teacher and friend to all. She was married to William "Bill" Preis for 25 blessed years, living their life hand in hand with their Lord and Savior, devoted to taking care of others.
Nancy enjoyed helping others in need, history, ancestry, music, telling stories, reading the newspaper and anything she could get her hands on, and especially gardening. She felt closest to God with her hands in His soil bringing to life His creations. Nancy was a teacher for over 50 years. She loved children so much and adored her foster kids. She came alive in the presence of God's children.
She was a member of Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran church, former member of Jabbok and attended St. Augustine's in Montpelier, VT. She loved the sanctuary of morning prayer which brought her closer to her roots as a nun of the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur. A lifetime devotee of Saint Julie Billiart, founding Mother of her Order, she kept her daily prayers and vigils close to her heart. She lived her faith in the hearts of those she touched with her generosity, kindness and compassion.
Survivors include: Husband, Bill Preis of Middlesex, VT; Son, C. Christian Garrity (Gina) of Ballard, WA; Daughter, Mara Juliee Garrity (Tim) of Ballard, WA; Daughter, Heather Mensah (Jordan) of Barre, VT; Daughter, Danielle Wilkie (Stuart) of Grants Pass, OR; Brother, Charles Garrett of Kailua, HI; Sister, Loretta "Tuts" McCullough; 3 grandchildren; 1 great grandchild and many beloved grand and great grand nieces and nephews.
She is pre-deceased by her brother Bob Garrett of Unionville, PA
A celebration of life will be held in her garden when the flowers are up and the veggies are blooming with the nourishment of God's love.
Nancy's cremated remains will reside in Bill's Blueberry Patch on the property of their home.
