COL (Ret.) Anderson Lafayette "Andy" Barnette, 93, of Princeton, WV, departed this life on Monday, December 15, 202 went home to be with his Heavenly Father forever.
He was born in Kimball, WV on August 23, 1932 to the late Hugh P. and Mabel Lucy Barnette.
in addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Alice Barnette; three brothers, Carter, Hugh Pat Jr., and Paul; and four sisters, Mabel K., Maomi, Emma and Margaret.
He is survived by his wife Yvonne Bowyer Barnette; son, Donald Barnette; daughter, Mary K; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; step-daughter, Pam ; stepson, Duane; daughter in law, Linda; and several step grandchildren and step great-grandchildren; brothers, John (Carolyn) Barnette and David (Georgia) Barnette of Bluefield; step-brother, Danny Barnette of Princeton; and step-sisters, Kim (Dale) Tignor and Elizabeth Barnette of Princeton.
Andy served his country in the US Army from May 24, 1950 until August 23, 1992, when he was placed on the retired list with 42 years of service. He had many different assignments during his military service starting with the 1st Calvary Division on September 1, 1950 during the Korean Conflict. His assignments included many enlisted positions, and he served as a commission officer from December 1, 1958 until his retirement in many command and staff positions, infantry armor (tank) and engineers. His last six years prior to retirement was Deputy STARC Commander for the entire West Virginia Army National Guard.
He was a graduate of Bramwell High School, and the 5 years course of the Army Officer Command and General Staff College and the University of Charleston with a BA degree.
He was a member of the Deliverance Temple in Brushfork. He stated many times that he lived his Heavenly Father, and his Christian brothers and sisters who he loved. His main object was to always serve his Lord and Master.
Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, December 19, 2025 at 11:00 AM at the Deliverance Temple Church in Brushfork with Pastors David Kirby and David Lusk officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton where military honors will be performed by the Mercer County Veterans Honor Guard. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
Friends may call prior to services on Friday, from 10:00-11:00 at the church.
