Andrea "Andie" Hertner

Andie (Bergquist) Hertner, 76, of Erie, passed away Friday August 4, 2023. She was born in Coronado, CA on May 25, 1947 a daughter of the late Commander Melvin D. Bergquist, Jr., MSC/USN, and Betty Jo Bray Bergquist.
Andie was raised in a Navy family and lived from coast to coast below the Mason Dixon Line.
Andie graduated from William T. Sampson High School in Guantanamo, Cuba. After moving to Erie she worked several retail positions, most notably at Carlisle's in the children's department prior to owning and operating her own cleaning business.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her brother, David A. Bergquist.
Survivors include her husband, James R. Hertner; two sons, Matthew Hertner and Michael Hertner (Kirsten), all of Erie; one sister, JoAnn Royer (Bob) of Chagrin Falls, OH; and several nieces and nephews.
Andie and Jim met in Cuba and married one year after he returned from Vietnam.
Her dedication to our country's veterans and active-duty military was a hallmark of her character, especially the Navy and the Marine Corps.
A special thank you goes out to the staff and Silver Sneakers group at the Eastside YMCA for their kindness in watching over Andie during her health decline. They will all remember receiving a Hershey's kiss from her after class. Also, a special thank you to AseraCare and their hospice staff, Sandy, Heather, Carle, and Kristen for their compassion in caring for Andie.
Friends may call at the Russell C. Schmidt & Son Funeral Home Inc., 5000 Wattsburg Rd., on Friday from 2 p.m. until the Memorial Service at 5 p.m. celebrated by Captain (Select) Erik Young, Chaplains Corps USN. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.
