Obituary published on Legacy.com by Kilpatrick Funeral Home - Ruston on Oct. 3, 2025.
Andrea Claire Winter Norred passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of Wednesday, August 20, 2025.
She was born June 15, 1943, in Manhattan, Kansas, the eldest of four children who treasured being the bossy big sister. Her father, who was deployed as a fighter pilot during World War II, did not see her until she was 13 months old. There was always a glow in her when she told this and many other stories of her life growing up as an "Air Force Brat".
Andrea graduated from Bossier High School, Class of 1961. She launched her lifelong profession by attending Radiology Technology School in Vicksburg, MS. In 1968, she began a distinguished 40-year career at St. Francis Medical Center in Monroe. Starting as an X-ray technician, she went on to help pioneer the hospital's sonography program, eventually serving as the Department Head of Ultrasound. She had a special passion for performing baby sonograms-being the first at St. Francis to do so- her patients knew her for her warmth and gentleness.
It was at St. Francis where Andrea met the love of her life, Prentice Norred. They were married on September 4, 1971, and had two sons together. They shared a lasting union marked by love, devotion, laughter, and family that spanned over five decades.
In her younger years, Andrea was adventurous and vibrant. She enjoyed racing cars, scuba diving, skiing, and embracing life with others. After retirement in 2008, she poured her creativity into her artwork, winning several awards for her paintings. She was a devout Catholic and a faithful parishioner at Jesus the Good Shepherd Catholic Church where she spent much of her time volunteering. She prayed the Rosary each night for her family and kept one beneath her pillow, a quiet testament to her unwavering devotion and faith.
Andrea loved life on the farm-drinking coffee on the balcony with her husband and dogs while watching the cows and horses graze. She got a sense of pride from painting the expansive stretch of white fence that embrace the farm. She was a remarkable cook never missing a chance to ask if you were hungry. Her greatest joy and proudest legacy was found in her nine grandchildren, each a treasured testament of her love and life. She made sure you knew how deeply you were loved, always wrapping you in a hug that spoke louder than words.
Andrea will be remembered as a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, daughter, and friend.
She is survived by her beloved husband, Prentice Norred of Eros, LA; her sons, Stephen Norred and wife Gina of West Monroe, LA, and Ryan Norred and wife Alycia of Sugar Land, TX; her grandchildren, Caleb, Virginia, Lucas, Abigail, Cecily, Elizabeth, Sophia, Eva, and John; her sister, Vicki Pekurney and husband Tom of Fort Worth, TX; and her brothers, Dr. Scott Winter and wife Sarah of Aledo, TX, and Andy Winter and wife Tonya of San Antonio, TX; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Andrea was preceded in death by her parents, LTC Andrew Clare Winter (RET) and Dorothy Genevieve Georges Winter Despain. Andrea's legacy of love, generosity, humor, and faith will forever remain in the hearts of her family and friends.
We will miss you Mom.
