Andrew "Drew" Tyler Alexander was born on October 28, 1964, in Lakewood, Colorado. Drew died peacefully while asleep on July 16, 2025, in Lakewood, Colorado.
Drew graduated from Green Mountain High School in 1983. He was active in school music programs, including the select vocal group "Shadows of the Mountain." He was most proud of his work as a member of the Youth Work Program Open Space Park Development for Jefferson County Open Space in 1979. He helped build the trails we still use on Green Mountain open space. He graduated from the University of Colorado with a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology in 1987. In keeping with the fine tradition of his generation, he proceeded to job hop for a few years while playing drums in his band, Paranoia. He landed a job at Maps Unlimited working in their warehouse. It was here that he made many of his lifelong. He adopted his beloved dog Tess from the then named Dumb Friend League, now Humane Colorado. He filled his life with music, his love for Tess, hiking Colorado 14'ers and cheering for the Broncos.
Drew met Terri Worm through a mutual friend while out to see a Bad Brains concert at the Ogden Theater in Denver in February 2000. A whirlwind of falling in love and they moved in together a few months later, followed by a move out west to the Roaring Fork Valley in 2002
Job hunting landed Drew in a door shop, working with his hands to make custom doors. During the five years living in the Roaring Fork Valley, Drew continued to hike, snowboard, and mountain bike; he said goodbye to his beloved Tess and hello to a new puppy named Ruby. Drew and Terri married in October 2006 at Red Rocks, and realized their home was in the front range.
When Drew and Terri returned to live in Lakewood, Colorado early in 2007, Drew transitioned to a new door company. While the company went through several name changes, he continued to work at this same company until his retirement in 2024, building a reputation as a thoughtful and caring coworker.
Drew embraced the straight edge life in 2010. He was proud to be sober for the remainder of his life. He replaced alcohol and drugs with road cycling, and it was transformational for him. He dedicated himself to riding, as his lean body was ideal for ascending Colorado mountain roads. His rides would take him over many of the most iconic Colorado mountains (Vail, Loveland, La Veta, and Pikes Peak to name a few). He traveled to Colombia and the Italian Dolomites for epic rides. He also traveled the world with Terri, visiting Mexico, Iceland, England, Morocco, and Italy.
Drew was an inspiration for dedication to a healthy life – hardcore athlete, sober, and eating a mostly plant-based diet for years. While training for a 2023 bike tour that would have taken him to Portugal, he could never quite get his energy up. He learned he was anemic – that led to tests where he learned he had colon cancer. He fought cancer (or as he liked to say "fuck cancer") as expected, with all he had to live his life fully for each new day, even flying to London with Terri to see Nine Inch Nails in concert four weeks before his death.
Drew lived a life quietly building a core group of friends. He will be missed by those he loved and who loved him back.
Drew is preceded in death by his father, Paul Robert Alexander and his mother, Marilynne Ruth Alexander.
Drew is survived by his wife, Terri and his sister, Jean Elizabeth.
Please celebrate Drew by finding one thing in your life you have dreamed of doing and do it.
Drew wrote this lyric in his last health journal. To know Drew is to know his love for The Clash.
"Go easy. Step Lightly. Stay Free." – The Clash, Stay Free
