I´m so sorry for your loss. Mr. Bitta was my neighbor when we lived on Condell Dr. Additionally, Mr. Bitta was my Health teacher. I enjoyed him in both regards. He was kind enough to allow me to catch a ride with him in to school his white Corvette with the red stripe when my mom was running behind. He was kind, fun and caring.

Coach Bitta, what an amazing influence you were as my brother and I started playing basketball under your leadership when we were in 4th and 5th grade at Wildcat Basketball Camp. It didn't end there, we were able to make it down to Champaign with our 1991 team and we always said, "Coach Bitta always had the right plays at the right time". What an experience! Not only were you a great coach and teacher, you were a friend. I remember moving rocks and mulch at your house. I remember many two on two games where you would kick our butts. And, I remember your wonderful wedding to Anne Marie. It was beautiful...and meeting your boys was special as well. You will be missed my friend. Jonathan Bauer

There is so much to say about Coach Bitta. I was fortunate enough to have him as my coach three separate times spanning from 6th grade to my senior year of high school. I´ve listed a couple of memorable highlights below:
1. Due to religious beliefs that made it difficult to play on Sundays, many coaches would have rather had a kid on the team that could attend all the games. Not Andy. As a 7th grader, he told me he would take me whenever he could get me and never pressured me to change my stance, singled me out, or made me feel like I was letting down my team. Despite the challenge that this may have posed, he prioritized what I needed for long term success.
2. My freshman year of high school, he told me we would be going to state our senior year. He was right, ensuring we were the most fit team in the state and also just so dang proud of that season.
3. Years and years after Soulja Boy was famous, he still had it as his ring tone
4. Lastly, he preached toughness in both basketball and soccer, always telling us to be the hammer and not the nail (a thought that still crosses my mind on tough days). We heard this in many many many pre game and half time speeches.
Though a hall of fame coach, his greatest coaching came in teaching us to become adults- giving us opportunities to learn mental discipline, how to enjoy the he game, how to handle losses etc.
I am a better person for having played for Coach Bitta, and like him, I will always argue that we should have won that 2011 state championship game.
Will miss you coach and will always be grateful for the role you have played in my life!
