Frederick William Dickman Jr., born on August 1, 1930, in Brooklyn, NY, peacefully passed away on April 24, 2024, in Libertyville, IL, at the age of 93.
Fred was a cherished individual, extremely proud of his family, and he touched countless lives. He was a loyal lifelong friend, mentor, and an inspirational coach. His selfless nature made him one of a kind.
He is survived by his sister Laurel (Regis) Korba, children Fredrick (Lisa) Dickman, David (Janice) Dickman, Julie (Jay Hall) Nelson, grandchildren Rachel Dickman, Danielle (Nick) Mazza, Jordan (Jordan) Quinn, Allison Dickman, Richard Nelson, Connor (Jenny) Dickman, Madeline (Andrew Bybee) Dickman, Kendall (Kyle Hull) Dickman, great-grandchildren Bentley, Dakota, Walker Mazza, Jack, and Luke Quinn, along with many nieces and nephews. Fred was preceded in death by his father Frederick Dickman,
mother Mildred Dickman, brothers Jim Dickman, Richard Dickman, and sister Eileen O'Connor.
He attended Ridgewood High School in New Jersey and furthered his education at Bradley University on a basketball scholarship. During college, he served in the Army during the Korean War for two years.
Fred's career was guided by his passion for coaching and inspiring student athletes. He was a golf professional, coached high school golf, boys' basketball, and girls' basketball, and enjoyed his many years as the Athletic Director at Deerfield High School. He started his coaching career at Morton High School and continued at Memphis University, Highland Park, Deerfield, and Vernon Hills High School for nearly 60 years. In 2023, he was honored by being inducted into the Deerfield
High School Hall of Fame.
Fred loved being with family and friends. He also enjoyed cheering on his grandchildren while they participated in sports and activities. Fred created scrapbooks for each family member, filling all 433 books with photos and creative captions.
Frederick William Dickman Jr. will be dearly missed by his entire family and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
A visitation will be held from 10am until the time of service at 1pm on Saturday, May 4, 2024 at Kelley & Spalding Funeral Home, located at 1787 Deerfield Rd., Highland Park, IL 60035.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that you make a donation under Freds name to Tunnel to Towers.

Coach Dickman and I got along great. I was disappointed when I couldn't play in the 1966-67 season due to a severe knee injury. That was Coach D's last season coaching at HPHS. A nice man who cared about his players, he will be missed. ~ Gordy (Gershon) Wolf.
