Andrew Francis O’Brien, Jr., born June 18th, 1953, gained passage to the final leg of this life’s voyage on the morning of Monday, October 6th, 2025.
He navigated through quite a few ports of call along the way. Casting off from Warren, Ohio, in the mid-1970s, Andrew first moored down his life in New Orleans, where he gained his sea legs for a multi-decade career in law enforcement. He charted a course of many successes over the years, having appeared on NBC’s Dateline and A&E’s Investigative Reports for his even-keeled detective work in the storied city of New Orleans.
Thereafter, in the mid-1990s after learning the ropes of good investigation, Andrew gave his career a wide berth when he transitioned to investigating fraud in the insurance industry. This career change had him docking at multiple harbors throughout his life: Little Rock, Charlotte, Orlando, Miami, and Pensacola, among others. Never one to be capsized by life’s rough waters, Andrew held close his ever-present sense of adventure - a sense he shared with his crew of sons Andrew (45), Patrick (30s), and Daniel (42). And there were leagues of adventures: camping amongst the Sequoias and Redwoods, scuba diving, living on a sailboat in the Gulf and Atlantic, running with the bulls in Pamplona, Spain.
Again and again, Andrew steered himself from one adventure to another, even if going adrift on occasion. However, keeping him on course since early childhood was his faithful first mate, Michael “Mike” Regnery, of Missouri. In 2018, eventually lowering the boom on a varied career, Andrew coasted into the shoals of his adventures, anchoring himself in Ocean Springs, Mississippi, the childhood home of his sons. It is there that Andrew was welcomed and eventually cared for by his childhood friend and ex-wife Elaine, assisted by their youngest son, Daniel. His continual and steadfast master at arms, Elaine, a retired nurse, brought great comfort and care to Andrew as the end of his journey drew near.
The family would like to thank Vital Caring Home Health and Hospice for their compassionate care.
The sun having gone down on this journey, may Andrew ever have “fair winds and following seas”.
