ANDREW SPOONER Obituary

Visit the Carlson Funeral Homes and Cremation Services - Medina website to view the full obituary.
Andrew Spooner, age 88, of North Ridgeville, Ohio, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on August 16, 2025. He was born on October 28, 1936, in a farmhouse on Jacquay Road in Columbia Station to Frank and Alice (née Zvara) Spooner.

Andrew proudly served in the United States Air Force for exactly 8 years, 9 months, and 17 days-a detail he never failed to share, and one the family fondly remembers. During his service, he worked as an equipment mechanic and contributed to automotive repair, base maintenance support, civil engineering supply, and organizational supply supervision. His dedication earned him several honors, including:

- Outstanding Airman of the 342nd Bombardment Squadron (January 1 – June 30, 1957)

- Airman of the Month (March 1964)

- Good Conduct Medal with two bronze loops

- Longevity Service Award (September 12, 1959)

On June 23, 1962, Andrew married Evelyn Cecelia Berthold. Together, they shared 63 wonderful years and built a loving family that includes four children, seven grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. Andrew had a true love for life and found joy in fishing, gardening, playing cards, visiting casinos, and sharing stories from his past. Andrew especially enjoyed reminiscing about his time in the military and his experiences in Alaska.

He will always be remembered as "Mr. Fix-It" for his remarkable ability to repair anything-from bicycles and cars to homes. He was always happy to lend a hand to friends and family, and he took great pride in giving tours of his immaculately organized shed.

Andrew is survived by his beloved wife, Evelyn; daughters Sandra Vigh (Bill) and Debbie Downs (Jim); sons Ken Spooner (Kim) and Jeff Spooner (Gerri); grandchildren William Vigh, Jennifer Kacr (Alex), Katie Downs, James Downs Jr. (Ami), Haley Spooner, Lindsey Johnson (Colin), and Danielle Hale (Nate); great-grandchildren Grayson, Gavin, Ellie, Emma, Izzy, and Max; sisters Ruth Berthold and Frances "Bub" Flury; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Alice Spooner; brother John Spooner; sisters Aggie Hall (Dallas) and Ann "Sis" Rudisill (Julian "Skip"); and brothers-in-law Tom Berthold and George Flury.

The family will honor Andrew's memory on Thursday, August 21, 2025, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Carlson Funeral Home – Medina Chapel, located at 3477 Medina Road, Medina, Ohio. Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 22, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home, with Pastor Don Bolich officiating. Following the service, Andrew will be laid to rest with military honors at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery.
