Andrew Henry Stevenson, Sr. was born on November 1, 1959, in Vivan, Louisiana and passed from this earth on Wednesday, October 11, 2023, at Christus Highland Hospital in Shreveport. He grew up in Noel Methodist Church. Andrew graduated from Southwood High School in 1977, and later obtained a degree in Criminal Justice from BPCC. He was an active member of the Jaycee’s. He retired from the City of Shreveport Engineering Department in 2019. He was an active member of many Masonic bodies, in fact, too numerous to list. He proudly held the titles of Past Master of Cedar Grove Lodge, Past Master of Southern Hills Lodge, and Past Potentate of the El Karubah Shrine in Shreveport, just to name a few. He thoroughly enjoyed travelling, especially to the mountains, history, and watching the Cowboys lose. Andrew loved to joke around. He could dish it out, and he could take it. But his most important priority was spending time with his family and friends. He was immensely proud of his son and grandsons and spent as much time as he could with them.
Andrew was preceded in death by a son, Charles Matthew (1983); his mother, Betty Ann Key Stevenson (2020); his father, William Henry Stevenson (2021); his brother-in-law, Frank Shelton (2019), and the mother of his sons, Beverly Gardner (2018).
He is survived by his son, Andrew Henry “AJ” Stevenson, Jr. and his wife, Lori; his grandsons, Garrett William and Chase Evan; his fiancé, Martha Adams; his sister, Sherri Shelton; niece, Lauren Laughman and her husband, Brandon; great-nephew, Camden; great-niece, Eliza; nephew, Louis Tackett; his brother, Johnny; his brother, Gerald; his brother, Danny and his sister, Betty.
Anyone who knew Andrew was aware of his wit, sarcasm, and laughter. He had a big personality and a big heart to match. He will be greatly missed by so many. The family would like to thank Dr. Jimmy Smith, Dr. Veerareddy, nurse Katie, nurse Abigail, nurse Alliee and the numerous other staff members who attended to Andrew during his final weeks. We would also like to thank Rev. Kaylan Walker for his kindness, support, and prayers. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials may be made in Andrew’s honor to Shriners Children’s Hospital, 3100 Samford Ave, Shreveport, Louisiana 71103.
A memorial will be held Saturday, October 21, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Noel Methodist Church, 520 Herndon St., Shreveport, Louisiana with a visitation being held at 10:00 a.m. A reception and Masonic Rites will be held directly after the service at Creswell Masonic Temple, 1805 Creswell Avenue (approximately a block away from the church where the memorial will be held). Anyone and everyone is welcome to attend the reception.
