Anita Chadwick

Anita Goldberg Chadwick, 102, of Jamestown, NY, died at home, on April 24, 2025.
Born in Chicago, Ill. along with her twin sister, Marion, on July 24, 1922, she was the daughter of Katherine Eckstein and Daniel Goldberg.
Anita graduated from Carleton College (Northfield, MN) in 1943, with a major in sociology. She moved to New York City and worked as an aptitude tester for Johnson O'Connor Research Foundation. Here she met Randall Chadwick, whom she married on April 1, 1950.
Moving to Jamestown in 1952, Anita became actively involved in AAUW and the Jamestown Concert Association, where she served as president. A life-long music enthusiast, Anita was enraptured by operas, concertos and symphonies. She remained a loyal patron of the Chautauqua Symphony Orchestra and the Chautauqua Opera Company.
Anita (and Ran) donated generously and tirelessly to numerous philanthropic organizations such as the Jamestown Concert Association, The James Prendergast Library, The Chautauqua Movement, Carleton College, and many others. They sponsored local artists and aspiring young professionals.
An accomplished ceramicist, Anita created beautiful pottery in studios at Jamestown Community College, Chautauqua Institution and The Greenwich House Pottery in New York City. Ceramics was an important aspect of her life, and she continued to make competent pots into her 90s.
Anita moved back to New York City in the 1980s, and summered for over 40 years at Chautauqua Institution. There she eagerly anticipated morning lectures and evening concerts.
She enjoyed traveling and was fortunate to visit many countries including, among others: Egypt, Africa, China, Japan, Czech Republic, Sumatra, New Guinea, Patagonia, Israel and Poland.
An avid Jeopardy fan and addicted crossword puzzler, Anita never recycled the New York Times until the puzzle was solved. She also enjoyed Wordle, Spelling Bee, knitting, reading and ikebana, and was an ardent bridge player. She was an excellent cook, and never missed cocktail hour, celebrating 5:00 with a daily martini.
Anita was a stickler for proper grammar, and rarely hesitated to correct her children's errors! She also hated TV commercials and muted them triumphantly with the remote control.
Anita is survived by her three children: Wendy Chadwick-Case (Jeffrey S. Case), Bemus Point, Dr. Randall Chadwick, Andover, MN, and Daniel Chadwick (Robin Goldstein), Arlington, MA.,; five grandchildren: Tyler Chadwick Case (Lauri), Brittany Bradley (Justin), Andrew Chadwick (Cayla), Taylor Leigh Chadwick (Alec), and Anna Goldstein Chadwick and two great grandchildren: Evan Jeffrey Bradley and Olivia Ruth Bradley.
Anita Chadwick was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Randall Chadwick.
Anita's life will be celebrated in a small family service on Chautauqua Lake where she loved to spend her summers.
