It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Anita Maline Erickson Kimball at the Chinook Hospice, Calgary, Alberta on September 20, 2025.
Anita is survived by her husband James (Jim) Kimball, daughter Heather Kimball-Paul (Darwin), grandchildren Halle and Hudson, son Steven Kimball, brother Terry Erickson (Denise), brother-in-law Joel Gajadharsingh and sister-in-law Sandra Erickson. She was predeceased by her parents, John and Doreen Erickson, sister Judith Gajadharsingh and brother John D. Erickson.
Anita was born on November 6, 1945, in Stockholm, Saskatchewan. Jim and Anita were married June 18, 1966, in Whitewood, Saskatchewan. They first lived in Ceylon, Saskatchewan, beginning with farming and then operating the local gas station. In 1996 they moved to Alberta, where they settled and lived and worked at the Kananaskis Fortress Junction Gas Station for nearly 19 years. Jim and Anita then retired to live in Cochrane, Alberta.
Anita was a voracious book reader and a faithful daily reader of the newspaper. An ardent card and letter writer, Anita brightened the days of many friends and family with her notes and cards. Anita enjoyed following local and world news through the TV and radio, going to movies (with fresh movie popcorn) and listening to music on the radio. Dancing to live music was a prominent source of enjoyment, many good times were had over the years dancing at the local Legion jam sessions, cabarets, weddings, Plentywood nightclubs, going as far back as the days of the dances at Round Lake. Anita was also an avid curling fan and knew the year’s curling schedule by heart. We will miss our Anita, Mom & Nana.
A special thanks to the staff of Rockyview Hospital Unit 37, the Chinook Hospice and those who visited and supported Anita in her final days. Those wishing to make a donation in Anita’s memory are encouraged to donate to your local Alzheimer’s Society.
A private family interment will take place in Ceylon, Saskatchewan, at a later date.
