Ann Turnage Erwin, age 82, passed away peacefully on February 8th, 2025. Ann was a remarkable woman. Her smile could light up an entire room. Even from a young age, Ann made an impact on everyone she met. Her husband, Jimmy, knew after seeing and meeting her at Brighton High School in their teenage years, that he wanted to date and marry her, but Ann had one condition for Jimmy; their first date had to be to church. So, Jimmy did just that; he took Ann on their first date to the church, and the rest of the last 59 years have been filled with love, laughter, achievements, shared wisdom, memories, and a life that was beautifully built together. Ann was an avid Tennessee sports fan. You could count on her to have on her orange and white on game days. She and Jimmy enjoyed a good golf tournament and baseball game as well. She loved the L.A. Dodgers. Ann was devoted to her family and making as many memories as possible and being present for everything with her girls, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She had a side to her that many may not know, she loved to laugh and have fun. She also loved the outdoors. Her children called her "Mom", her grandchildren called her "Granny", and Jimmy called her "Erv." Overall, everyone would agree that they should have just called her an angel. Her heart was just unimaginably big, and she was always so humble.
Ann was a Christian lady with Christian values, and instilling those same values into her family was important. She was always there to support her grandchildren and cheer them on in everything that they did, perhaps their biggest cheerleader. Ann could be described as strict but fair. She carried herself in a very lady-like confident manner her entire life. Ann was a selfless lady who gave her heart to everything that she did and was always well respected by everyone around her. Ann spent her career life in the education field. She began elementary education at Brighton Elementary School teaching the fourth grade and retired from the school as the principal. Throughout her career she made major impacts on education, the children that she taught, the peers that she had, and the friends that she made along the way. Ann mentored student teachers during her career, and she found joy in doing so. She always offered them great advice, and she remained there for them for anything that they may need in the years to come. Ann was awarded Principal of the Year for the West Tennessee District during her career. Her legacy in the education field has continued through her daughter and will continue to carry on through her granddaughter. As we remember Mom, Granny, Miss Ann-she was cherished by all.
Ann is preceded in death by her parents; James Clifton Turnage and Mary Pauline Waits Turnage and one brother, James Mark Turnage. She is survived by her husband, Jimmy C. Erwin, three daughters; Virginia Ann Kidwell (Mark), Jill Erwin McIntyre (Arnold), and Merri Beth Erwin (Matt), one sister, Linda Turnage Moody (Bobby), six grandchildren; Luke Kidwell (Josiana), Mack Kidwell (Harley), Anna Dixon (Blake), Currie McIntyre, Jamison McIntyre, and Arlee McIntyre, and three great-grandchildren; Maclynn Dixon, Owen Dixon, and Gus Kidwell.
