Ann Theresa (Costa) Flannery of Bridgewater passed away peacefully at home on October 12, 2021, surrounded by her beloved husband and children after a lengthy battle with cancer.
Born August 4, 1950, in Brockton, she was the daughter of Charles and Eleanor (Flynn) Costa. Ann graduated from Bridgewater-Raynham Regional High School in 1968 and received her bachelor's degree from Stonehill College in 1972. She went on to receive her master's degree at Bridgewater State College in 1982.
Ann began teaching third grade at Central School in East Bridgewater in 1972. Over time Ann moved to second-grade instruction, where she remained until her retirement in 2008.
In 1982 she married Richard Flannery. From that point forward, her career transitioned to include the roles of wife and mother of three. Over the years, Ann frequented football games, dance recitals, school plays, robotics competitions, and tailgating parties. She enjoyed spending her time with her family and their pets. Ann and Richard were married for 39 years.
Ann was a devoted grandmother. She loved spending time with her grandchildren. Their adventures often included library story time, outings to the farm, apple picking, and playgrounds. On rainy days, Grammie taught the grandkids how to bake cookies, make crafts, and read.
Ann loved watching Jeopardy, traveling, reading, walking the dogs, and attending Mass. She was very social and thoroughly enjoyed family get-togethers and spending time with friends. Her gentle but infectious smile and laugh were familiar to all that knew her.
Ann is survived by her husband Richard; her three children: Jennifer (Charles Breen) Flannery of Bridgewater, Jason (Sophia) Flannery, and Brian (Kristen) Flannery of Middleboro; three grandchildren: Lyla, Austin, and Ava; sister Mary (Henry P.) Thompson of Brockton, brother Charles (Julie) Costa of Florida and Minnesota; as well as several nieces and nephews.
