age 81, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, in Narragansett.

Ann was born on June 20, 1944, in Niagara Falls, NY, the daughter of the late Charles and Katherine (Few) Hustleby. She earned her bachelor’s degree in education from Niagara University and a master’s degree in reading from the University of Rhode Island.

When Ann moved to Rhode Island in 1973 with her husband for his MBA studies, she told him, “You look your entire life for a place like this, and I’m never leaving.” She kept that promise, dedicating nearly 30 years to teaching first grade, kindergarten, and reading at Narragansett Elementary School, where generations of children learned to read in her classroom. In 2004, she was elected to the School Committee for the Town of Narragansett, demonstrating her continued commitment to education and her community.

In her healthier years, Ann, like any tried-and-true teacher, treasured her summers at the Town Beach, enjoying the ocean she loved. She took up tennis and even coached the Narragansett High School Girls’ Tennis Team. She spent winters in Port St. Lucie, Florida, where she found a wonderful community of fellow poker players and friends. Ann’s passions included reading, making holidays special for her family (especially Halloween), and slot machines. In recent years, she found her greatest joy and delight in her granddaughter, Lucy.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Joseph S. Hohman. Ann is survived by her sister, Susan Hustleby of Rochester, NY, and Port St. Lucie, FL; her son, Peter Hohman of Narragansett; and her daughter, Katherine (Kate) Hohman of Narragansett, her husband, James Ter Beest, and their daughter Lucy. She is also survived by her sisters- and brothers-in-law, Mary Hohman of Narragansett, William Hohman of Pittsford, NY, Patricia Adams of Ontario, NY, and John Hohman of Excelsior, MN, and their wonderful families.

Private services will be held for the family.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ann's memory to the South County Museum, 115 Strathmore Street, Narragansett, RI 02882, or online at southcountymuseum.org/donate.
