Ann McClanahan, age 89, of Marion, IL, passed away on Tuesday, July 8, 2025 at Parkway Manor in Marion.
She was born on September 21, 1935, in Marion, IL, to Albert Wayne and Eva Lee (Cato) White.
Ann attended school through the eighth grade at Fowler School. She then went to Marion High School for three years, transferring to Johnston City High School, where she graduated in 1952.
She married James Thomas McClanahan on November 24, 1955 in Lake Creek Baptist Church in Williamson County, and together they shared over fifty-four years of marriage until his death on July 19, 2010.
Ann began working at the age of 16 for the E. Blankenship Company of Marion for 4 years. The majority of her working career, however, was as a legal secretary between the James W. Sanders and Charles Winters Law Firms for a total of 40 years, until her retirement at age 62 to spend more time with her grandchildren.
Ann was an active member of the Second Baptist Church of Marion for many years where she also taught Sunday school for young people up to fourth grade. She also drove the church bus for many years. She enjoyed playing pinochle and meeting once a month with some of her past co-workers to go out to eat. Ann's life was very centered around her family, particularly her grandchildren. The many precious memories that have been created will now be cherished by those she leaves behind.
Survivors include two daughters and one son-in-law, Kelly and Chris Davis of Goreville, IL and Mary Kathleen Griffith of Marion, IL; grandchildren, Camille Davis and partner, Alex Lidiak, of Oxford, England and Ian Davis and partner, Emily Miles, of Paducah, KY; step-grandchildren, Bruce Griffith and wife, Denise, of Marion, IL, and Babs Frederking and husband, Ben, of Okawville, IL; step-great-grandchildren, Matt Griffith and his wife, Nichole, of Galatia, IL, Nikole Griffith of El Mirage, AZ, Kari Cretini and husband, Chris, of Lafayette, LA and Ryan Foster and his wife, Kelsiee, of Austin, TX; several step-great-great grandchildren; and many other extended family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son-in-law, James Griffith; two sisters, Jane Newbold, and Peggy Fowler; and a nephew, Steven Ray Newbold.
The family would like to thank the staff at Parkway Memory Care for their excellent care and support these past few years during Ann's illness.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Wilson-McReynolds Funeral Home, 900 North Court Street, Marion, IL.
